Military time divides the day into 24 hours as compared to civilian time which divides the day into two 12-hour phases—A.M. and P.M. In military time A.M. hours with single digits begin with “0” as in 01:00 for 1 a.m. “0-Dark-30” or “Zero-Dark-Thirty” is slang meaning early in the morning before sunrise.

A real early pre-dawn time, like 4 am, in military speak, “Oh 4 hundred hours” (04:00), or “Oh 4 thirty” (04:30)
