Crony capitalism: Obama going for gun control with tactic used to pass Obamacare
The Washington Examiner ^ | January 5, 2013 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 01/06/2013 7:33:12 AM PST by Qbert

President Obama plans to ally himself with big business once again by using crony capitalist tactics to pass gun control just as he used them to pass Obamacare. In this case, Obama reportedly plans to make sure that the new gun control law benefits big businesses that sell weapons.

“[T]he White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses,” The Washington Post reports.

“Wal-Mart and other major gun retailers may have an incentive to support closing a loophole that allows people to bypass background checks if they purchase firearms at gun shows or through other types of private sales,” the Post explained, citing a source who works with the Obama administration on gun issues.

Obama used the same tactic when passing his health care law, when Jim Messina (the White House deputy chief of staff, at the time, who went on to manage the 2012 presidential campaign) negotiated with the drug industry to get them to pay for pro-Obamacare television ads.

In exchange, “drug lobbyists and White House officials crafted the legislation,” as The Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney recalled. “Obama abandoned his campaign promises and pledged to protect the drug industry’s government-granted privileges. The industry also secured subsidies and lengthy government-protected monopolies on biotech drugs.”

I wonder how many FFL holders will support this as they will profit from the “transfer fee”???

This is a classic divide and conquer move by Obama.

If WalMart joins forces with Obama to grab guns, they will face a fierce boycott from tens of millions of Americans that would decimate their business. Are they really that stupid? Or will Obama offer them a $10 billion ObamaCare waiver to make it worth their while?

Careful, Walton Family. It's hard to boycott a Big Pharma company when one of their drugs may be keeping you alive. But it is damn easy to drive an extra mile to buy toilet paper or diapers or Chinese-made childrens clothes at Target or KMart.

Who knows - maybe W-Mart thinks the same way the Dims in government think; the people who use them are so hooked that they'll continue to shop there no matter what. If a bunch drop out and shop elsewhwere, they'll end up missing the convenience and trickle back with a whimper. Seems to have worked on a national political level...

And we all know that Democrats are for the little guy. This illustrates perfectly the failure of a totally corrupt media to shed light on any of this. But alas, they have the same ideology of “dear leader” so some animals are more equal than others.

Had it been a Republican president tied to a company like GE and revelations of them paying zero taxes, the incessant drumbeat from the media would have been deafening. Instead, Obama is protected while the ire is shifted to GE and Immelt but in a muted fashion.

Hmm...The Chicoms are in bed with Wal-Mart, who then gets into bed with Obama. Anybody see a connection here...?

Recall that WalMart stopped selling firearms entirely for a while. So they can give up the business and in proportion to every other line they carry, it is minuscule. I don’t expect them to be swayed by this very much if at all.

Overall, firearms at the big retail level is not anywhere near the business of Big Pharma. BHO had leverage in drugs but it is lacking here. May he put his political capital on the line only to have it crushed. May his defeat signal the beginning of the end of the power of his Unicorn in the minds of those who wax his halo.

I think this means big business like Walmart would support shutting down individual sales and/or make it so difficult to do it that people stop selling individually and go to Walmart or other big business to buy their weapons.

Ramming this sort of (restriction) down freedoms throat will not be as easy as Pelosi's most ethical congress and the unconstitutional bribery to get the Obamacare TAX passed....Obama and his family are under armed guard...his daughter's school is under heavy guard...Obama travels with a small army of SS and Military personnel; when he goes out for a Hawaiian Ice or to play golf he is surrounded by a phalanx if guards...an American citizen deserves no less protection and via the Second Amendment provides that security himself NOT via the American taxpayer. Like the Guantanamo closure promise proved to be a bad idea, locking up American guns will also prove to be his undoing and I might add...the undoing of any politician who takes up the Obama-gun-confiscation-act.

Any bets John Boner, Eric Cantor and Mitch McConnell are already formulating a plan to concede this issue?

All three are gutless wonders. These traitors should be hung!

...crony capitalist tactics...

Tactics of totalitarians. BIG GOVERNMENT IS CRONY SOCIALISM. Fascists in business and government may co-conspire with each other.

Capitalists? Never. You can walk away from a capitalist and take your business elsewhere. A socialist, fascist, totalitarian is in your business, in your pocket, mandating your life.

There are millions of capitalists providing goods and services that free-choosing individuals decide to purchase or not to purchase. There is nothing “crony” about it. CRONY SOCIALISTS manufactured the terminology. Lexicon manipulators. If it’s “crony” it’s not capitalism. Capitalists cannot FORCE you to do anything. If you're being FORCED, your not being FORCED by a capitalist.

Criminals/communists/fascists/totalitarians/socialists/governments CAN and DO FORCE

Check out Aldis, if there is one near you, if Walmart truckles to Obama.
Cheaper than Walmart on many things, in my experience—better fruit and produce, quality stuff—some Euro flavor, and you don’t sacrifice that quality Walmart shopping experience ...

Sorry charlie, but I am not obligated to follow laws that are passed illegally or by legislative tricks. My representatives are supposed to have at least a few days to read a bill before voting on the bill. Otherwise we do not have a government constrained by the laws it passes. And if the government is law breaking, then there is no obligation for the people to obey the laws.

Just another diversion. I think Obama will go for the full semi-auto weapons ban via the Supreme Court.
