It's official. President Obama has chosen former Republican senator from Nebraska Chuck Hagel as his nominee for Secretary of Defense and plans to make the announcement Monday, POLITICO's Mike Allen and Darren Samuelsohn report over on the home page:

A Democratic aide described the White House’s logic for choosing Hagel, age 66: “Chuck Hagel is a decorated war hero who would be the first enlisted soldier and Vietnam veteran to go on to serve as Secretary of Defense. He had the courage to break with his party during the Iraq War, and would help bring the war in Afghanistan to an end while building the military we need for the future.

Obama wants him because he double-crossed the Republicans on the Iraq war? What a maroon

The country needs more Hagels who see America beyond their parties. Democrats also welcomed.

The way to defeat Obama should be obvious now - being a ghetto punk he sees any compromise as weakness and will insist on getting his way at all costs on every issue.

So go to ground on every issue and bleed him to death. Fight him using every political means possible. He cannot keep it up, not even with the help of his news media friends.

Weaken the SOB so badly that when something really important is at stake - for example when a geriatric ex-ALCU supreme court justice finally goes toes up - Obama will have expended all of his political energy.

He's lazy. He won't be able to go the distance.

He’s also a signatory to the “Global Zero” plan which would immediately eliminate our Minuteman ICBM force, and de-alert our SSBNs, with a long-term goal of the elimination of nuclear weapons.

Of course, the hearings (and the media) will be completely focused on whether he hates gays or Israel, rather than on his views on our nuclear forces.

How stupid can you get.
Obama screwed up foreign policy, and is hiring Chuck Hagel to fire him.
Obama wants to blame the Republicans for his disasters.

Really Chuck, how stupid can you get?

"He is done. Liberals don’t like him. Conservatives don’t like him."

I am not so sure. Obama will love this - more division and fighting in Congress. More diversion from the economic calamity he is visiting on us and if the fight is prolonged, he will blame the GOP for any military setbacks. Hagel is just cannon fodder to Obama.

Hagel needs to publicly, very prominently, come out publicly and completely, against gun control.

Now.

How about it Chuck?

Maybe Obama's nominating Hagel because he knows he won't make it.

Then on the second round he can have the nominee he really wants (the GOP will be hesitant to say no twice).
