After spending more than a year investigating allegations that Google favored its own products when producing search results, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has decided against imposing any serious punishment on the search giant.

In response, Google is both celebrating the decision and also using the FTC report for its own benefit.

The FTC decision is in line with earlier reports that suggested government officials simply didn't have much proof of any wrongdoing by Google.

Will Google’s Eric Schmidt join the Obama administration? Cabinet shakeup watchers say yes

Schmidt’s big role in the Obama re-election campaign, Google’s $1.9 million donation to Democrats during the race, and Washington’s efforts to quiet a looming Federal Trade Commission investigation into Google are key signs that the president wants Schmidt in his cabinet, insiders believe.

Google’s political action committee gave $1.6 million to Democrats in 2008 and only $300,000 to GOP candidates, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

This year the committee has given $2.1 million to Democrats and $715,000 to Republicans.

Google donated more than $700,000 to Obama alone in the November’s election.

There’s a good way to kill initiative

It may take 5 to 10 years to bring something to market, along with a lot of time and dedication

If you kill the tax incentive after an arbitrary 2 years then a lot of things will not ever make it to market

If one can live without tailored search results, supporting advertisers by click through fees, integrating everything with the big “g,” pick a search engine that doesn’t do any of that and tell giggle to pound sand.

pop the internet search bubble.
