RE :”Many news outlets are reporting the tax impact of the fiscal cliff deal to be in the neighborhood of $620 billion over 10 years. This overlooks the larger impact, however, of the expiration of the payroll tax holiday, which will rise from 4.2 to 6.2 percent – a one-year increase in that tax of 48 percent. “

This had NOTHING to do with this bill. Those taxes were going up even if the ‘woof-woofers’ in the House had killed this bill.

It is another outright lie to say that this bill raised the FICA tax, it did nothing to it. If this bill was killed on that ‘principle’ those taxes would be the same as today. Not one single woof-woofer in the House said they voted against this bill so FICA taxes don't go up.

What Rush completely misses is that maybe Rs will get the blame (by very few) for the ~ $50B tax increase on the 1% but if they had listened to Him then it would have raised $4T taxes on the 99% too then they were sure to get the blame for that massive tax increase by most people, because they really did do it.

Sorry, I mean $4T tax cut, that is what this bill did. That is all the additional income taxes on the 99% Clinton rates over lower Bush rates.

Technically on Jan 1 taxes went back up to the higher Clinton rates. So on Jan 2 Rs in the House helped pass a $1T tax cut that lowered them back down to the Bush rates.

Give me a break. And they are no longer the Bush tax cuts, they are the Obama tax cuts and they have no sunset clause.

Now the R house dissenters knew they could not make the argument that you are, that if the price for stopping that pork is that 99%(you and me) must pay a 1T$ tax increase then its worth it. They knew that argument would kill them. So they simply lied and said the tax cut was a tax increase. No principle in that.

Two thirds of the Reps in the House voted AGAINST the bill. The public is going to credit Obama and the Dems for stopping the increase in their taxes. And the 85 GOP members in the House who voted FOR the bill will face the voters in the 2014 primary trying to make the same argument you are. I doubt if most of them will be viewed favorably given what was in the 156 page pork laden monstrosity. And if the economy is still the same or worse, they will suffer the consequences either in the primary or the general election. Anyone who knows what is in the bill can only surmise that the people who voted for the bill are not committed to solving our long term fiscal problems.

Look for more GOP surrenders in the upcoming fights on the debt ceiling, CR, and sequestration. There will be plenty of reasons to rationalize the surrenders, but the bottomline is that the Reps are afraid to use the power they now have in the House for fear of being blamed. Why continue the charade of Rep control and just turn it all over to the Dems so we don't get blamed for anything.

RE :”Give me a break. And they are no longer the Bush tax cuts, they are the Obama tax cuts and they have no sunset clause. “

Great point, the original Bush tax cuts had automatic expiration dates that required no action to go back up it near impossible to stop.

But Bohner got those Bush rates forever or until two Houses of congress and the POTUS pass a bill increasing them, very difficult to do(unless troublemakers in the House are successful making Pelosi Speaker again).

This is a major victory for the taxpayer thanks to Bohner’s bravery under fire.

This had NOTHING to do with this bill. Those taxes were going up even if the ‘woof-woofers’ in the House had killed this bill.

They could have been addressed in this bill along with the tax breaks for wind energy, Hollywood, algae producers, etc. Why wasn't it? The idea that all of the stuff contained in this 156 page pork laden monstrosity had something to do with the fiscal cliff is ludicrous. At least the expiration of the payroll tax holiday had something to do with taxation of incomes. 80% of income earners in this country pay more in payroll taxes than they do in income tax.

What Rush completely misses is that maybe Rs will get the blame (by very few) for the ~ $50B tax increase on the 1% but if they had listened to Him then it would have raised $4T taxes on the 99% too then they were sure to get the blame for that massive tax increase by most people, because they really did do it.

What is worse, letting the tax rates go back to the Clinton era or rates or adding even more spending and deficts and debt? What will it take for the American people to realize that they cannot have the benefits of the welfare state and not pay for them? We can't tax the 1% enough to pay for the welfare state.

RE :”Two thirds of the Reps in the House voted AGAINST the bill. The public is going to credit Obama and the Dems for stopping the increase in their taxes. “

This is exactly the problem.
If too many Republicans now flip and say we should have had massive tax increases because O was against them then they might as well just give their money to the DNC.

I warned about this will before Jan 1 and before plan B, dragging this out will just make it look like Obama cut our taxes.

But the ‘make believe’ crowd had to make believe that Bohner would do what no human being would do.

I am seriously considering that many Republicans really want to return to the days of 2009 (pulling nonsense like this) even if that means many more O-cares. Then like Rush they can bask in their claim "See I told you, we would lose because of the MSM" as Rush did after the election.

The "troublemakers" in the House are the ones who got the Reps control of the House in 2010. Boehner would not be speaker without them. And Boehner has not cut any spending. Instead spending continues to rise and so does the national debt. If we lose the House in 2016, it will be because of the 85 who voted for the bill, not the 151 who voted against it.

This is a major victory for the taxpayer thanks to Bohner’s bravery under fire.

A victory for the taxpayers? Are you crazy? This bill is adding to spending, the debt and deficit, and will cost thousands of jobs. The taxpayer will be the big loser in the long term. We can't continue down this same path. It is insanity. When are we going to make some real spending cuts?

Its obvious that is what many freepers are thinking but by making the GOP the ones that raise those taxes that lesson would never be learned.

The only lesson most would get is ‘vote D unless you want higher taxes’

My proof is that not one of the woof-woofers in the House made the argument that we cant afford those Bush tax rate extensions, they knew this was suicide. So they lied and said they were voting to stop the tax increases.

That is why none ran for Speaker.

I don't follow your logic. How can the 151 Reps who voted AGAINST the bill flip? They are in the best position to make their case to the voters explaining that the bill raised their taxes (payroll tax holiday not addressed) and contained pork that will increase spending and the debt and deficit. The 85 Reps who vore for this 156 page pork laden monstrosity have a hard time explaining to their voters why they voted for it, especially if the economy heads into another recession.

I warned about this will before Jan 1 and before plan B, dragging this out will just make it look like Obama cut our taxes.

Passing the bill guaranteed that would be the case. Obama is going to get the credit, not the Reps. And the Reps will be blamed for trying to reform the entitlement programs.

So what do you recommend the Reps do in the upcoming battles over the debt ceiling, sequestration, and the CR?

RE :”The “troublemakers” in the House are the ones who got the Reps control of the House in 2010. Boehner would not be speaker without them”

He is Speaker because none of the fwighted wabbits in the House who opposed this bill want Bohners job because they all know they are making ridiculous demands of him they dont want on themselves.

So not one ran against him.

Instead the wabbits voted for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck instead of him.

The GOP helped pass the bill that raised taxes, not just on the 1%, increased spending, and added to the national debt. Voting for a Rep means voting for higher taxes. They are no different than the Dems now. For over two decades, the Rep brand not raising taxes. We saw what happened with Bush 41's read my lips.

Boehner helped purge the conservatives from committees. He faced opposition and would probably not be speaker if a secret vote had been taken.

You can defend Boehner all you want (you really should learn how to spell his name), but he has been a disaster ever since he became speaker. He is part of the problem of what is wrong with Washington.

Again, you offer no solutions, just defending surrender. What should the Reps do in the upcoming fiscal battles?

The Senate Bill the House passed lowered them on Jan 2 for 99%

Do you think everyone is as stupid as the low information voter? In realville two is still greater than one.

Washington has cut spending every year since I was born and yet the debt goes up every year. Just give up this nonsense, or take it over to DU where they will buy anything.

HA_HA, Rush !

Rush abviously just forgot to tell his ‘high information’ voting audience that on Jan 1 income and FICA taxes went up to the higher Clinton rates so on Jan 2 we all (except him) got a tax cut to the lower Bush rates, It was a massive $4T tax cut.
None of you seem to know that those Bush tax cuts had expiration dates or you would be celibrating the tax cut you ngot that he didnt.

Dont believe Rush, he is almost always wrong.
He gives you all false praise ('high information voters' LOL) so you wont remember what he told you a month or year ago that was all proved wrong.

Rush slipped here and told his 'high information voters the truth for a change:

RE :”RUSH: Okay, so that's the prevailing wisdom. But the reason why the Republicans think that new “revenues” are finished is for this very reason: The Bush tax rates, which were set to expire, are now locked in, in perpetuity. And those are tax rates on the middle class. And they didn't go up. They didn't go down, but they stayed the same. Now, it is true that you can't fund a welfare state without taxing the middle class. You just can't do it. We're proving it.
Tax Hikes are Off the Table? Really?(January 07, 2013, RL.com)

Stayed the same LOL

I like this one :
Rush :”But plenty of other taxes are gonna go up. Payroll tax, Medicare tax, Obamacare.”

But in Dec 2010 he said the ‘payroll tax’ was not a tax, he said it was a insurance premium because it funds SS.
