Same-sex couples can marry at National Cathedral

WASHINGTON — The Washington National Cathedral, where the nation gathers to mourn tragedies and celebrate new presidents, will soon begin hosting same-sex marriages. Cathedral officials say the church will be among the first Episcopal congregations to implement a new rite of marriage for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender members. The church announced its new policy Wednesday.

As the nation’s most prominent church, the decision carries huge symbolism. The 106-year-old cathedral has long been a spiritual center for the nation, hosting presidential inaugural services and funerals for Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his last sermon there in 1968. The cathedral draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

In light of the legality of same-sex marriage in the District and now Maryland, the Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, decided in December to allow an expansion of the Christian marriage sacrament. The diocese covers the District and four counties in Maryland. The change is allowed under a “local option” granted by the church’s General Convention, church leaders said. Each priest in the diocese can then decide whether to perform same-sex unions.

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest gay rights group, applauded the cathedral’s change Wednesday as a milestone.

These are episcopalianas not Christians so this building isn’t really a church. It’s just a far left liberal social club with colorful windows.

The Episcopal church was founded by a decadent lowlife, Henry VIII and is simply remaining true to values of its founder. You can certainly pack a lot of crap in a building that big.

It's still falling down due to the earthquake. I seriously doubt if anybody of consequence is going top want to be celebrated there in the future ~ the risk is simply too high.

So much for being a significant DC feature anymore.

The Episcopal church is no longer Christian because it does not follow Biblical teachings. It is a social club based on tradition, not doctrine.

Determining if a sacrament should be expanded or not based on state approval might be more insane that accepting ‘gay marriage’ in the first place. What would they do if the state decided they wouldn’t recognize heterosexual marriage anymore, no more husband and wife marriages in this faith?

The further down you go the steeper the slope gets.

And here we are:

“5 And such was his passion for Hierocles27 that he kissed him in a place which it is indecent even to mention,c declaring that he was celebrating the festival of Flora.28

6 He violated the chastity of a Vestal Virgin,29 and by removing the holy shrines he profaned the sacred rites of the Roman nation.30 7 He also desired to extinguish the everlasting fire. In fact, it was his desire to abolish not only the religious ceremonies of the Romans but also those of the whole world, his one wish being that the god Elagabalus should be worshipped everywhere. He even broke into the sanctuary of Vesta, into which only Vestal Virgins and the priests may enter,31 though himself defiled by every moral stain and in the company of p119those who had defiled themselves. 8 He also attempted to carry away the sacred shrine,32 but instead of the true one he seized only an earthenware one, which the Senior Vestal had shown him in an attempt to deceive him, and when he found nothing in it, he threw it down and broke it. The cult, however, did not suffer at his hands, for several shrines had been made, it is said, exactly like the true one, in order that none might ever be able to take this one away. 9 Though this be so, he nevertheless carried away the image which he believed to be the Palladium, and after washing it over with gold he placed it in the temple of his god.

7 1 He also adopted the worship of the Great Mother33 and celebrated the rite of the taurobolium;34 and he carried off her image and the sacred objects which are kept hidden in a secret place. 2 He would toss his head to and fro among the castrated devotees of the goddess, and he infibulated himself, and did all that the eunuch-priests are wont to do;35 and the image of the goddess which he carried off he placed in the sanctuary of his god. 3 He also celebrated the rite of Salambo36 with all the wailing and the frenzy p121of the Syrian cult — thereby foreshadowing his own impending doom. 4 In fact, he asserted that all gods were merely the servants of his god, calling some its chamberlains, others its slaves, and others its attendants for divers purposes.

A house of God is profaned. It can no longer be a Holy Place...

God will NOT be forever mocked.

But I have to sarcasticly ask: when will Wiccans be given a place in this “National Cathedral”

Well then ... We should seek out and encourage the most radical looking, pierced, hair died assortment of wackjobs and beg them to get “married” at the national cathedral so the press covers it. We need those images out there.

Maybe get someone to make a stink as to why they can’t “marry” their pet boa at the national cathedral. If there are no rules let’s expose as much of this nonsense as possible.

Are federal funds going to this national landmark?

I visited there during a business trip to DC many many years ago. “Creepy” was the adjective I had to give it.

..the Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington..

Is this the same Lesbian "bishop" that openly resides with her female partner? Is this the same branch of "Episcopalians" that believe Christ was not divine? Is this the same branch that rejects the misogynist, antiquated proscriptions of the New and Old Testaments?

Well. How convenient..

It’s the same bunch that has a dean priestess in a divinity school that called abortion a blessing. But there are many Episcopalians and Anglicans in other parts of the world that are very orthodox Christians, from what I understand they are horrified at this stuff.

With AIDS/HIV cases in Washington DC being a little over 3% of the population (national average of 0.6%), should we be surprised?

This issue and the ordination of females as Priests are the reason the Episcopal Church in the USA has split. Those who still believe in traditional values and moral precepts are now Anglican and identify with the Anglican Church of North America. We are Christians and we do believe in the Holy Bible as well as the mission of the original Anglican/Episcopal Church before it was perverted by the radical liberals within.
