What? You think you join (One) Branch of Service and that is it?
Recruiters from all Branches actively Recruited me even when I was Active Duty when it came close to my hitch being up.

Really wish I would have taken the offer from the Airforce to be a Weather Guesser ... OHHH to be young again
Air Force

Thanks for the report. I was wiping tears from my eyes listening to him.
I thought the same when I read this.

“I heard nothing that even hinted at anything that sounded disingenuous.”
Okay, I understand that. But I did. I have heard way too many people claim to be SEALS who weren’t. A guy calls into a radio show claiming to be a SEAL and makes a comment about being a Marine raises my suspicions. I did, however, make the comment in my original post that he could have transferred services (or he may have completed his enlistment in the Marines and then went Navy).
I live in Apple Valley, CA. It is a good couple of hours north of San Diego. Unless there is another Apple Valley. I’ve got to say “What the you know what?”
He didn’t even need to complete an enlistment to go SEAL .. and if he was an Officer he could just get Transferred ... or if he was in OTC he may not even have had a choice, you start out as Marine or Navy and they just assign you the Branch where the billet is ... it’s just paperwork.
As much as Marines hate to admit it ... we Squids are joined at the hip with the USMC. We serve together.

It is a bit (but not much) more difficult going from Navy to Army or Air Force. Dang near impossible to go from Navy or Army to Coast Guard (I tried). Again it’s just paperwork.
It really depends on how creative or resourceful the Recruiter is. JMHO
Follow up
I have heard a lot of people claim that they were a “Marine” too.

Yes. We used to live in SoCal. Isn’t Apple Valley up near Barstow? I believe he said he lived NEAR his father. And the Marines with the SEAL claim made me think. My son is a Marine. But I just wondered if he was a bit confused. He did sound like he had had a very rough time.
I hope Rush talks to him again, I did not get to listen today.
Great post, Thanks.
“You know, in the long-time past, Hollywood would be making movies about guys like Larry. Guys like Larry would be the kind of hero that kids would be reading about in school, the kind of heroes kids would learn about in movies. “
Yes-—we replaced the Horatio Alger books with “Wimpy Kid” books to warp and damage Virtue in children—those Virtues used to be instilled by Classical education and the Bible-— which created the greatest country ever. The curricula is banned from public schools since the 50’s.
There is now a Marine Special Operations Command, but in the past it was not uncommon for Marines to leave the USMC and go Navy specifically to take the selection course for Navy SEALs. You would have to pass the SEALS selection course. If you fail, you still have to complete your Navy enlistment.
