Thank you for this post. My recollection of this battle is that General McCrystal?? stopped the unit from leaving because it would make Karzai look “weak”. Had the unit been permitted to complete the move from Keating, we may not have lost the 8 or 9 soldiers that lost their life. Am I mistaken about this, as the General has been making the rounds with his book sale and I have heard no reporting on what should be an important, but negative, action on his part.
If I am incorrect, let me apologize now.

Thanks...I don’t know but it doesn’t sound far off the mark because of what was taking place around that time.

Marine Corporal Dakota Meyer was awarded the MOH for an action about a month prior to this action in the Kunar Province. In that action they called for air and artillery support and were refused because of the supposed close proximity of Afghan civilians but that’s another story.
