Ald. Sandi Jackson has resigned from the Chicago City Council.

The 7th Ward alderman submitted her resignation letter to Mayor Rahm Emanuel today. It is effective Tuesday.

"After much consideration and while dealing with very painful family health matters, I have met with my family and determined that the constituents of the 7th Ward, as well as you Mr. Mayor, and my colleagues in the City Council deserve a partner who can commit all of their energies to the business of the people. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as Alderman of 7th Ward, effective January 15, 2013," reads the letter released by the mayor's office.

Ald. Jackson's resignation comes after her husband, Jesse Jackson Jr., resigned from Congress before Thanksgiving amid federal ethics probes...

I don’t how the Chicago Tribune can report on politics in Chicago with a straight face. They are part of the problem.

Well written resignation letter. About as good as it can be done I’d say

I dont believe myself 'conditioned' to 'think' about anything,
but when I hear 'Chicago' & 'politician' & 'resigns'...its hard not to jump right to:

'probably a step ahead of being indicted'

This is probably part of a plea agreement or non-prosecution agreement with a federal prosecutor.

That was my hunch, too, except I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how anyone in Washington, D.C. could authorize investigating a representative of the Chicago way. Aren't felonies normally swept under rugs?

“’probably a step ahead of being indicted’ “

1. Most, if not all, are Black
2. All are Democrats
3. Some are already indicted
4. More should/will be indicted
5. Hopefully some will go to jail (all should)
6. The “contsituents” will elect replacements who will do the same things
7. The “constituents” will be tickled because “their new guy” is getting over on whitey.

Question: Does Illinois have a wing at the state prison for crooked pols?

What is the crookedest position in Illinois? Governor? Mayor of Chicago? Alderman? Congressman?

Just when I think that whole state can't get more corrupt, I'm surprised.

Not THAT many states have governors who go to prison.

So one crooked politician is resigning from the Chicago City Council. Don’t worry, there are plenty more to take her place.

Heck, ‘THAT’S THE CHICAGO WAY’.

Only to a degree. In this instance, the House GOP is on the prowl for scandals in the Department of Justice, the Jackson clan had frictions with Obama, and Jesse Jr. had drawn attention to himself and his wife through the Blago scandal, his peculiar hospitalization, and obvious campaign financing derelictions.

As it is, Jackson and his wife seem to be getting off easy. In most such cases of a federal public corruption plea agreement, the feds insist on a publicized arrest, then a written plea agreement and allocution in open court that detail the crimes charged or that could be charged.
