The universal background check system is simply licensing gun possession. They started with a perfectly reasonable-sounding plan to check potential purchasers with "instant" checks to see if they were the hated felons, drug users, or mental cases and then they morphed it easily into including anyone accused of domestic violence (anybody got an angry ex-wife out there?) or may have committed some misdemeanors. The system is anything but instant in practice and clearances can be delayed for days sometimes with no explanation and no way of examining your own record or even talking to a real person to find out why things are held up.
No, this is the real prize the Left wants: complete control of all firearms purchasing or denials with zero recourse. Bye bye 2nd Amendment.
