A “Firearms Museum/Reflecting Pool” and no churches?

What kind of citadel is this?

Don’t get me wrong; I agree completely. There is a definite limit to the threat level such a structure could withstand, and that is far below any modern army. It would at best withstand armed rioters until authorities could arrive in force.

Interesting.

"Mr. Ellison did not respond to requests for comment. He told CNBC in October that he wants to turn the island into a "little laboratory" for sustainable living."

"Most definitions of Oppida emphasise the presence of fortifications, so they are different from undefended farms or settlements; and urban characteristics, marking them as separate from hill forts."

Fixed fortifications are big targets. Defensibility lies in mobility or invisibility, such as underground centers.

Being nomadic independent of govt controlled highways is a way to go. Conservative communities at sea or travelling the mountain chain from Alaska to Mexico with pack animals and hi tech collapsible shelters. That is, if you want the maximum independence from society.

I remember a hippie type commune in the PNW that lives in a wandering fashion using tipi technology. Some hold down jobs, others try to live off the land or make a few $ goldpanning or growing forbidden herbs. They pack up and move the whole shebang several times a year to another forest area marginally accessible by logging roads.

I went the sailboat route, myself.

You idiots have been playing too many video games.

Post of the day. Starting to remind me of DU when they show their entire knowledge of guns and the military from whatever game de'jour they are playing.

Those ignorant idiots that do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. There is no fortress that cannot and has not been defeated. Mobile targets are much more difficult to hit. Having communications between fighters and the agility to move and strike an enemy far outweigh any initial, and only an initial, defense a wall provides.

“I’m assuming they’re low & slow”

A drone flies 13,000 to 23,000 feet on average. That’s 2.5 to 5 miles away. Good luck hitting anything flying 100-300mph at that distance, not to mention shooting upwards.
