Hundreds rush to gun store in hopes of buying semi-automatic rifle (VIDEO)

A controversial gun sale caused a traffic jam on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington well before 9 a.m. as people stood in line outside Hoffman's Gun Shop hoping to get their hands on a semi-automatic rifle value bundle.

Hoffman's Gun Center & Indoor Shooting Range was selling only 100 of the Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport value packs, and that had people lined up in droves.

The gun itself has been the target of a lot of controversy, and many lawmakers are looking to ban it and other semi-automatic rifles.

But it's what came in addition to the rifle that has people talking. Both the ammunition and the magazine have come under fire this week.

According to an advertisement, Hoffman's was selling the value pack – which included the Smith & Wesson model M&P15 Sport, 10-round semi-automatic rifle, two 20-round boxes of .223 ammunition and a MagPul 30-shot magazine – for $839.

Newington police were called to direct traffic as gun buyers hurried to get their hands on the deal, one that has people on both sides of the gun control debate talking.

"We heard about the special," said gun buyer Jeff Smith. "They got 100 assault rifles in, and they're impossible to get."

Adam Lanza, 20, used a similar weapon when he shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School last month and killed 20 children and six adults before taking his own life.

Every item in the value sale is coming under fire from the government. This week, Sen. Richard Blumenthal called for mandatory background checks when purchasing ammunition.

Hoffmans is a good shop, been around forever at one location or another.

$839 - pretty good deal.

This "assault rifle" label is such garbage. The only assault is against the 2nd amendment and my head is ready to explode with the marxist's talk of gun grabs, registering ammo, guns for hunting and target practice, etc.

That’s a very good price in this climate. I saw a used S&W Optics Ready rifle go for $1700 not to long ago.

Well, they're NOT selling some cheap tennis shoe with some NBA players name on it.
Hence the quiet, orderly, peaceful line of customers taking their turn, waiting patiently.

"I don’t know much about this weapon but 850 bucks for a .223 with magazines sounds pretty good."

MSRP is $839. A friend of mine bought one a few years ago. It's a decent, bare-bones AR clone that comes with a folding Magpul rear sight and standard A2 post up front. S&W keeps the cost down somewhat as it does not have a forward assist and the only chromed components are the gas key and bolt carrier.

You’d be lucky to get a complete upper on GB for the price of that whole rifle. I’d line up for it too.

Yeah, I checked out your link.

All the ARs are currently over $1400. I think you are referring to their M&P handguns or .22 models.

But, that quick look makes me happy I bought my AR for $650 a few days after the election.

Wonder how many of those (other than the surprised DU types) who don’t like what’s going on now just couldn’t make to to the polls for one reason or another?

That’s no joke. I really want an F/A bolt carrier group as a spare, but the prices on these have gone from ~$180 to about $500 on gunbroker. Forget trying to get them through manufacturer. BCM sent me an e-mail saying their bolts were available online. They sold out in minutes. BCM even in non-panic times sell out in minutes.

S/A bolt carrier also selling for ~$350 - $400 on gun broker.

“...a background check for ammunition...”that Demo-rat is sooo stupid...

So someone without a record buys a box of ammo - says they shot it all up - but instead sold it to whomever...yeah - background checks are soooo effective...Blumenthal is an IDIOT...and this is why everything Demo-rats do FAILS...it takes 30 seconds and even less time to pass it over to some criminal...big set-up!

I lucked out and got these .308 mags (shipped yesterday) but I literally had to wait a week for them to be made.
