The US federal government is a deadbeat

Today President Obama told the American people that the US government is not a deadbeat.

Depending on the definition used, he is wrong.

According to the cambridge dictionary, there are two major definitions of a deadbeat:

(1) a person who is not willing to work, does not behave in a responsible way and does not fit into ordinary society

(2) a person or company that is not willing to pay debts

If we used the first definition, I would contend that the US federal government is both "not willing to work" and "does not behave in a responsible way." Therefore Mr. Presdient, the US federal government is a deadbeat.

Sorry I couldn't help myself when I learned what the definition of a deadbeat was.

I think definition two fits also. We don’t pay our debts, we just print money and kick the can down the road letting out debt load increase rather than paying it off. Ultimately it will be so large it can never be paid off and the bottom will fall out leaving millions holding the bag.

(2) a person or company that is not willing to pay debts ...Obama is arrogantly trying to portray himself as the only person in government who is trying to pay our debts, while demonizing Republicans by saying they irresponsibly want to avoid paying - in fact Republicans are the responsible party who do indeed want to pay by cutting back spending as necessary to make sure enough funding is available to meet our obligations, while it's Obama who wants to continue eating out all the time, as he put it in today's bizarre press conference, even though the credit card is fast approaching its limit......
