Obama warns of 'disaster' if House GOP doesn't raise debt ceiling (Another Obama disaster!)
Yahoo News ^ | 01/14/13 | Linda Feldmann

In the final press conference of his first term, President Obama called on House Republicans to pay the bills Congress has already racked up. He also reiterated that he will not negotiate over the debt ceiling. President Obama warned congressional Republicans Monday that a failure to raise the federal debt ceiling in the next several weeks would spell “disaster” for the US and global economies. And he reiterated his position that he will not negotiate over the debt ceiling. “These are bills that have already been racked up, and we need to pay them,” Mr. Obama said in the last presidential press conference of his first term. “So while I'm willing to compromise and find common ground over how to reduce our deficits, America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they've already racked up.”

The Republican led Congress continues to get kicked by the obozo and the dems in the part of the body where a man’s balls would normally be located. If Boner had something hanging in that location that indicates masculinity, he would simply tell Reid to obey the law and submit a budget so the House can then do its job. The congressional stance should be; No budget = no government spending, period. The dems couldn't get to the table fast enough.

Why can’t just one republican stand up and stick a finger in Obama’s face?

It’s the twilight zone because the lap dog media would be all over a Republican President for the jobs disaster...

Why is almost no one willing to acknowledge that we have, in effect, been failing to actually pay our debts for the past eighty some years?

See Debt Default In America.

The sanctimonious silliness of the Keynesian culprits defies adequate verbal description.

Too bad it isn’t only the people who voted for this guy who will suffer for that choice.

Congress has at least a moral obligation to provide funding for the spending bills they enact.

What moral obligation & what funding? 40% of every dollar that the U.S. federal gubmint spends is borrowed money. There's no "moral obligation" to spend money which the gubmint does not have. That's not immoral, that is the plain common sense truth. It is grossly immoral to saddle more debt on top of future generations. You can't spend yourself into prosperity.

We need to CUT $1 Trillion in spending in 2013 and another $1 Trillion on top of that in 2014, simply to just balance the spending against the revenue (Taxpayer money that is. The gubmint doesn't create or generate one penny of revenure on its own).

Yes, immediately removing $2 trillion in spending over the next two years would not affect GDP at all. /sarc

And the moral obligation is that congress passed spending bills. Now the congress is refusing to pay for that spending that’s already been enacted with additional revenues and they are not going to allow the President to raise the money through the Treasury issuing additional bonds. That is immoral and pigheaded.

I don’t know why the President doesn’t take the point of view that by the mere act of passing the spending bills the congress has implicitly raised the debt ceiling by ordering the President to spend X amount of dollars but not providing the revenue to do it.

And the statement that the US government does not have money is ridiculous. The federal government can have as much money as it wants per its constitutional authority to print money.

I think the GOP commits suicide if the House votes to raise the debt ceiling, no matter what deal is made with El Presidente. But they need to back it up with a huge PR campaign.

Obama is starting to frame it that way.

Where is the outcry against the GOP? Where are the cuts? Is not Congress responsible for the budget? Why can't they explain the difference between the 2007 budget and now? Where is the money going, and why is there a Trillion a year deficit than a few years ago?

Agree 100%. If only Boner/Boehner & the rest of the GOP pukes would only have some balls. I would love to see 0dumb0 and the partisan hack media, go into apocolytic hyper-ventilation if Boner/Boehner laid down such a decree.

“they”???

Which “they”?

Nancy’s 2010 congress that enacted obamacare?

The Senate hasn’t passed a budget since 2009, which contained HUGE spending increases, with the intent of forming a baseline for continued HUGE spending levels.

This is a new congress, which has NO “moral obligation” to fund ANY of this crap!

Hell - Zero and his minions have packed the plastique into the canisters and have lit the fuse. Then they claim the Republicans aren’t blowing hard enough to extinguish the fuse. Would be funny if we didn’t already know we can count on the Repubs to go into panic blowing mode and then try to tell us how they averted a disaster. They think we’re as stupid as the Left’s base - so far we haven’t disappointed them...
