Im raising my first steer for butchering. His name is, Dinner and hes still WAY too cute to eat,
Hope you don't have any young children b/c they will get attached to "Dinner"
My brother's kids did and when he had it rendered into hamburger, they had a hard time eating "Buttercup"
To this day one of my nieces cannot eat some meat and hamburger not at all
I kidded them about it, saying:
"What did ya think your grandaddy does with all his cattle? A retirement home for wayward cows?
They gave me the "stink eye"
HaHa.

it’s different when you raise them. they have a face and they look at you.
it’s why i am grateful that other people are butchers. if i had to do it my diet would be inverted, probably. i couldn’t go veggie but it’d be a lot less meat.

We say the cows go to “freezer camp”.

Nope. My boys are all adults and have run as far away from Farm Life as humanly possible.
Idiots. ;)
This is MY first go-round with home-grown beef, so I’m wondering how *I* will react when the time comes. I’m made of pretty tough stuff, but sometimes my human side overtakes my cyborg side, LOL!
