Is this union sabotage for moving to SC, use of too many overseas parts, or really bad design?

It's mostly hysteria. All new systems have bugs. Boeing has an excellent record and a good reliability and corrective action program.

You want a system really sabatoged by the unions? Try the US government.

Electrical power requirement for 787 is 10x previous aircraft. APU batteries (for starting) changed out to LiIon which are widely known to have fire problems. Not a good sign.

Not unusual in new, innovative aviation systems. The Air Forces C-17 comes immediately to mind. It had a lot of break-in issues, but has since become the service’s premier airlifter.

wonder if it’s worker sabotage, deliberately doing bad work.

Yup. Local news playing this up, as Seattle is the original home for Boeing.

ANA has 18 of the Dreamliners.
