Virginia Heffernan, Y! News:
Thanks everyone for weighing in. These are crucial issues. I'll speak for myself:
[snip]
When I hear about violence, like in Newtown, I feel unsafe and worry that my kids are unsafe, but my mind doesn't go to arming myself or people at my son's school. It goes to the blind terror I feel around guns, especially in the hands of maniacs, but even when I see them on the hip of an NYPD cop. It goes to how lethal they are. And it goes to how I wish guns would disappear. So they and their bullets would never be near fragile human flesh.

Here's a question: There are undoubtedly racists out there who feel blind terror around black people, who wish they "would just disappear." What news agency would choose such a person to cover race-related stories such as: diversity, demographic trends, affirmative action policies, legislation, etc?
And yet, here we have someone who feels blind terror around guns (and, presumably gun owners) - who nevertheless meets the accepted criterion to be an editor of news stories that cover guns. It would be interesting to put the question directly to Yahoo! News (like, to her boss) about what standards it has for objectivity and lack of bias in covering news stories. If they wouldn't hire a KKK member to cover race relations, how is possible that Virginia Heffernan still has a job covering gun-related stories?
Perfect choice for Yahoo editor.
"It goes to..." is such an incisive phrase she uses it repeatedly.
I’d love to see this posted on all sorts of different gun forums, and see if perhaps some pressure can be applied to relieve Virginia of her job, or at least that aspect of her job that has anything whatsoever to do with firearms. Perhaps also Yahoo! can be asked what their policy is regarding criteria for selection of reporters and editors covering various beats. I have looked for contact info on Yahoo! news without success.
Better add the SARC/ thing.
Is this the future of social interaction, lol?
Shoot me now.
Or if the 9/11 hijackers had guns.
>> It goes to the blind terror I feel around guns
Forceps are far more deadly, jackass.
She’s a Yahoo! news editor and blogger.
Eleanor Roosevelt says "Don't be a hoplophobe."
Excellent.
You ought to Google her name, she’s just another leftist hack who joined in the “they’re coming to take my birth control away” feeding frenzy that helped the treasonous Kenyan MF’er to re-steal the election. Also apparently has a Ph.D from Harvard. That sewer pit needs to be shut down yesterday, but that’s for another thread;)
..... ..... Well...... For a starter .... How about a statement from ..... the "PEOPLE" .... and not the NRA or some other targeted group.
.... the people .... the citizens .... and the masses are the ones that will make a difference ...... not an organized group that have already been demonized by the enemies of this great country!!!
.... WE have been demonized by the left .... therefore we need to find a different terminology to appeal to the low informationed deceived ones that seem to be controlling the future of this great nation.
Glenn Reynolds points out that their argument is ‘Guns are icky!’ and they are lauded as intellectuals.
She’s just a Yahoo.
