Democratic lawmakers unveil gun proposals in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va.—

A month after the school shootings in Connecticut, President Obama is preparing to unveil a major gun control proposal Wednesday morning. And Virginia lawmakers are promoting legislation they say will make an immediate impact on gun safety in the state.

Arlington Delegate Patrick Hope says he was stunned by how easy it was to purchase a handgun, when he and Alexandria Senator Adam Ebbin visited a gun show in northern Virginia recently. He showed the weapon to reporters at a State Capitol news conference Tuesday morning. "I bought this gun with nothing more than a request to see my Virginia license. And that is it," he said. "And it was a completely legal transaction."

Ebbin held an ammunition clip. "This was similar to the magazine that was used to kill 26 innocent people in Newtown Connecticut," he said, "and it can’t be like buying candy any more."

The Democrats are proposing legislation that would require background checks on all gun purchases, including sales by private dealers at gun shows. They also want to tighten restrictions on the sale of firearms to the mentally ill.

Their bills will face a difficult test in the House of Delegates. Republicans who have traditionally supported the rights of gun owners say there are more effective ways to promote school safety.

Lexington Delegate Ben Cline is Chairman of the Conservative Caucus: "And the men and women who are in our schools in brown and blue, those school resource officers do a great job, and actually provide a positive role model for our young people and a connection to law enforcement at an early age, so we want to encourage that program," he said.

Senator Ebbin cited a recent poll that indicated more than 90 percent of Virginians support background checks at gun shows, but it remains to be seen if the proposal can find more support in the General Assembly.

Ebbin is a marxist. Once disguised himself as a “Green Party” candidate for just about everything. He represents the fringe left but got a lot of Democrat voters to support him.

The smuck probably doesn’t know that his driver’s license is used to do the required background check before he could buy a gun.

It is a shame that Virginia doesn’t require a sanity check. For that one, Adam, you would fail.

Der Obamafuhrer has issued his Orders and his lieutenants have come running.

Obama is a very skilled demagogue. You whip up the masses, even if they are a minority, you call on your button men to set up a droning, and you create an aura of inevitability which demoralizes your enemies and invigorates your cult followers in order to secure your goals.

If America today was worthy of America of the past, this tyrant would be impeached.

Mental health screenings and background checks for politicians.

As it should be, per the 2nd Amendment.

My guess is that a woman exercising her Constitutional "right" to an abortion isn't required to provide even that minimal amount of documentation.

So, how many people has he killed with it?

What IS it with Alexandria?
They continue to elect Moron and this Ebbin jerk yet they are a very “spotty” community with gazillionaires living cheek by jowl with EBT users and I-speak-no-English illegals...and muggings galore.
Limousine libs with their heads stuck in the sand...glad my kid has moved outta there...as are a bunch of his friends.

Gee, we allow anyone to assume the presidency, on the basis of a simple election, without any background check or security clearance whatsoever.

What could possibly go wrong?
