2 arrested after teen killed at end of game at Chicago State University

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed after a fight broke out at the end of a high school basketball game at Chicago State University.

Tyrone Lawson was shot around 9:20 p.m. outside the gymnasium near 95th Street and King Drive, according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

Shortly before the shooting, an argument had broken out in a handshake line after the game between Simeon Career Academy and Morgan Park High School, police said. The argument spilled into the parking lot and someone pulled out a gun and shot Lawson, officials said.

Just watched a story on ESPN about Ben Wilson, an up and coming star at Simeon back in the early 80’s, and he was gunned down. Ban Chicago high school basketball games!

How does it happen that children and young adults grow up without an appreciation for the sanctity and value of life?

Leftist culture teaches them at a very young age they're victims of anything that creates a burden on them. Abortion eliminiates one of those burdens. If abortion works for one burden, why not abort other burdens as well?
You see, where ever theres a victim, some else has to be the villian. The victim gets to chose who the villian is, and who deserves to be aborted to eliminate the threat of that burden.

The politicians steal for the freeloaders. If a politician doesn't do the stealing, they feel they're forced to steal for themselves.
If a politician won't "abort" their burden, they feel they're forced to abort that burden themselves.

I traveled to Chicago frequently over the years but I have a hazy recollection of watching a woman who lost more than one family member in such a way and at different times. She told the reporter she was tired, knew the police could only do so much and that the political leaders were basically inept and such established laws could only harm someone like her. She said straight out she was getting a gun to protect herself.

Finally Limbaugh, Levin, and others are begining to connect the dots. The gun control argument is a diversion from the budget debate. What 2nd amendment supporters should respond with is those accusations I itemized here.

The culture of different races of people is certainly a societal phenomenon. I have read where intelligence, i.e. ability to develop change, of different races can be plotted as a bell shaped statistical grouping. I believe that similar groupings can be made for other societal behavior/activities. I believe that in such sport/athletic activities as baseball, basketball and football black skinned persons as an entire racial group have demonstrated to have an edge over other ethnic groups. This does not exclude a member of any other racial group from being in the high performing envelope. There are cultural envelopes for most if not all societal functions. I also believe that differences of cultural performance/capabilities can be the result of human existence from ages past even if not traceable to the beginning of divergence. For me it is a shame on humanity today to disregard or hide these God created cultural differences.

I understand your point, but to me it is a question of those things that we pass on to our children in ways that don't involve genes or epigenetics. Arguably we are little different now genetically or epigenetically than we were when we were feeding people to lions in the Coliseum. What makes us different now is what we have learned over time. We have learned more about the value of life, the respect of others irrespective of their societal rank, etc., and have become in some ways more humane and ethical because of what we've learned. What we've learned isn't hard-wired into our genes, but is ‘inherited’ by our children, and by their children, only because we pass what we've learned on to them. When we stop doing this, what we've learned can be lost. My view is that in some societal settings we are neglecting to pass on some of the most important spiritual messages that have been learned over the past centuries of human history.

I also strongly believe that there are very important emotional developmental needs that all children have, very early on in childhood, and when they aren't met these children are affected emotionally for life. Children who never receive nurturing and empathy may grow up not knowing how to give these things to others.

The bottom line is that there are way too many children who are deprived of the parental nurturing that they need and deserve at a young age. They grow up with a disadvantage, and often wind up unhappy and lost. Then the cycle can repeat (although this isn't inevitable by any means). I don't have any special knowledge or magical solutions, but I do know that we can't fix these things as a society if we can't even talk about them and debate the issues openly, honestly, and sincerely. That isn't happening. We are very much in a villains and victims mind-set, and that in and of itself can be highly destructive.
