A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed after a fight broke out at the end of a high school basketball game at Chicago State University.

Tyrone Lawson was shot around 9:20 p.m. outside the gymnasium near 95th Street and King Drive, according to Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

Shortly before the shooting, an argument had broken out in a handshake line after the game between Simeon Career Academy and Morgan Park High School, police said. The argument spilled into the parking lot and someone pulled out a gun and shot Lawson, officials said.

Shots should have been limited to basketball plays.

Another handful of criminals off the street and if lucky, an illegal handgun as well...

Ah, Chicago State. A venerable, dignified, well-staffed city university. The student body is well-qualified and highly diversified.

Chicago should pass some laws that makes shooting a person a crime. I blame the politicians for not thinking about this before now.

Malcolm X said he could always find the "colored" (his word, not mine) part of any American city by looking for Abraham Lincoln High School.

I’m sure the “chosen ones” will blame the gun instead of the lack of fathering these lowlifes received. The animal behavior of the feral breeders is coming home to die violently.

Boy, ain't that the truth. Here in Cleveland, a lot of hospital personnel have to travel MLK to get to the big hospitals. They're told to have one in the chamber at all times, don't necessarily stop for red lights, and don't have your purse anywhere in sight because they'll have a street-side lookout who will signal ahead to thugs who'll try to stop the car.

Ain't race relationships great since we've tried "to just get along"?

The game ended around 9:20 pm? That's too early, they should have been playing Midnight Basketball.
Bill Clinton told us that would keep the kids out of trouble. /s

Another dead minor in Chicago, and no one has the guts to talk about, let alone address why this is happening. It’s not because of gun laws. In 2009 Derrion Albert was beaten to death close to Fenger high school on the Chicago south side. He was a good student and not involved in the fight between two gang factions (one of the gangs was from Altgeld Gardens, where Obama did community organizing). Still, he is gone.

There are a lot of things that contribute to why this happens, but essentially none of them is the subject of much conversation or debate, let alone attempts to correct them. Violence is part of the inner city culture, and in many ways this is glamorized by the entertainment industry - to the point that suburban kids try to emulate the glamorized aspects of this ‘culture’.

How does it happen that children and young adults grow up without an appreciation for the sanctity and value of life? What gives young women/girls the idea that getting pregnant at a young age, while unmarried, and becoming young single parents without an education or a job is a good idea? Why are high school drop out rates so high in the inner city? What insightful and passionate responses have we heard from the politicians who ask these same communities to vote for them? Midnight basketball? More welfare assistance?

Obama and the rest of the left are gutless ideologues who don’t have the integrity to admit what they are wrong about, and/or the courage to address these things substantively. It doesn’t matter, as long as they can depend on the votes.
