RIVERDALE — Pictures of a man carrying a rifle inside a big box store in Riverdale are raising a lot of eyebrows. The woman who took them tells KSL the man had no business bringing the gun where he did.
It was supposed to be just a regular trip to the JC Penney. Wednesday night, Cindy Yorgason was in line to return something when she saw a man with some pretty heavy fire power.
"He had the assault rifle over his shoulder," Yorgason said. "He had a handgun on the right side of his belt along with at least one additional clip."
She got out her phone after she said "a couple of other customers started to raise their eyes and look at this guy like, ‘Is he crazy?'"
She never felt threatened, but she believes a place like JC Penney is an inappropriate place to bring a weapon.

That's my First Amendment Right your talking about. You have no 2nd Amendments Right to carry on private property. Don't believe me? Try carrying a rifle slung over your shoulder into a federal building. Try the IRS building for grins and come back and report to me. They may infringe upon you enough to convince you that you might be wrong.

Listen, I’ve come right out in my posts and said you have just as much right to say what you’re saying by way of the 1st as I do to carry by way of the 2nd.
Problem here is that I live in Florida, and open-carry isn’t legal. So yeah, I’m not going to go out carrying openly, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be carrying concealed. And you know what? There’s an exhaustive list of businesses I will not patronize due to their anti-gun policies. I’ve made it public and spoken openly in my local media about it.
The whole open carry in a Federal building is another canard. Can’t carry in a courthouse either. In Florida, you can’t carry in a lot of places. Guess what? It’s the State’s and the Fed’s rights to pass those laws.
Unless and until the Feds or my State say that no one may carry anywhere at any time, I’m going to exercise my right. If I lived in an open carry state, I would do so. That does not make me a bozo or an “attention seeker.” That makes me a responsible, law-abiding citizen.
Your right JCP is private property. If JCP store policy is no firearms why was he not arrested? And if he was arrested I do believe it would have been stated in the article.

I don't believe this, and I challenge you to find any instances of this happening on a large scale. Franchise and corporate businesses, I can understand. My local breakfast nook has a sign on their door that says, "We welcome law-abiding gun owners" on their door. The 80+ year old, 4'11" owner of the place has a S&W .38 revolver on her hip in a very ornate, very well-worn leather holster.
I think more people would carry than you would guess, and no store is going to ban a large portion of their clientele for exercising their right.

You are absolutely correct, however after that you are not.
Neither the Federal building or the IRS building are private property nor have they ever been. Government building may have their own sets of rules/regs but in no way, shape or form are they private property.
If lots of people carry, it's no big deal and everyone behaves themselves. It's a concept gun-grabbers just don't get.

Ok, One of my kinda pet peeves, if you will, is someone calling a magazine a clip. I’m trying to get over it but whatever.
But, if you are going to call a 30 rd mag a “banana” then it’s prolly just as well to call it a “banana clip”

I agree but my point was that the 2nd Amendment is not an absolute right to employ anywhere you desire. Some people here seem to overlook that fact and in so doing will incur MORE restrictions than if they would use some common (or uncommon) sense. Why give the other side more ammunition to bring more restrictions and more gun-free zones? CCW will protect you and others and the store from acting on a situation that some people created.
In most states if you carried there it is NOT something the cops can ‘walk you to jail’ for. Ignoring the sign is not a crime. They have to ask you to leave. If the owner asks you to leave AND you refuse then you can be nailed for trespass.
Some states added language to their CCW laws that made it a misdemeanor to ignore the ‘no gun’ sign. In those places you can be hauled off. But everywhere else it is still a free country until the owner asks you to leave.
