Texans react to President’s proposed firearms plan

President Obama's plan, announced Wednesday, to curtail gun violence in the wake of recent mass shootings is drawing both criticism and praise in the gun-loving state of Texas.

The president is calling for Congress to implement background checks for all gun purchases and to ban certain assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Republican Gov. Rick Perry said the president's plan "disgusts" him and that it is an effort by the political left to use the killings to accomplish an anti-gun agenda. He called for prayer and a rejection of evil, as opposed to gun regulation. But Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, said in the wake of the president's announcement that he plans to file legislation to close what has been called the “gun show loophole” in Texas.

Governor in Texas has about the least power of any elected official. The Lt. Governor has more political weight. Which is why Dewhurst needs to go in 2014.

HUGE mistake. You do not want a bunch of NY RINOS (even if they own guns) turning your state blue.

Are you going to the 2A Rally in Austin, tomorrow, to give us a report? I can’t go, but am pushing attendance at those who can. Do you have a clue who will speak at the rally?

I agree, in Texas the RINO’s conspire with the democrats to elect Dewhurst thus demonstrating that the RINO really are democrats.

Dewhurst himself on the other hand like many democrat appointees is a criminally corrupt baboon, If you ask me he should be brought up on charges and thrown in jail.

As for the so called praised given by certant traitors in Texas, let it be known that no matter what Washington Does Texas will never give up its guns, nor will they honestly register them.

We Texans have prime access to Mexico, so if nessary we will obtain our weapons illegally, and funnel them to our sister state patriots. WE WILL NOT BE DISARMED!

Obama can go pound dirt, because the only thing he can do to us is try to define us criminals for asserting our 2nd amendment rights.

“You do not want a bunch of NY RINOS (even if they own guns) turning your state blue.”

I don’t think any RINO New Yorkers would come here - they hate Texas too much to do that. There are conservatives in every state, including New York - they would come if they could so some will come here and they are welcome.

The Democrat Party is The Party of abortion, socialism, immorality, and gun confiscation. They own it.

Any Democrat that says otherwise is just trying to stay in office until they can cram it through with a majority vote. These Democrats who feign fidelity to the 2A will flip “for the sake of the children” etc., just like the "conservative" Dems did for socialized medicine, gay marriage, etc. They are all statists, some just won't admit it.

There core values are always “developing” until they have a solid majority to cram it down everyone’s throats.

You know we should to encourage Gun sports and gun competition & training in Texas to build upon our existing gun culture and further secure the place of Guns among our people in the lone Star state. Besides if one day our people should need to exercise that right as it was intended to fight to defend their other rights they should at least have the practical skills to shoot strait.

There are quite a number of organization that should perhaps be invited to setup a booth. Such as:

http://www.texastactical.net/

http://www.texascombatshooters.com/

http://www.dallaspistolclub.com/competition.php

http://www.ctrpclub.org/

http://texasshootingrange.com/

Just to name a few, we need our people not only armed but trained, organization like theses and many others across Texas can help do that, but they must make their presence & services known. If your going to hold a rally you might find it wise to invite them along.

It would seem to me that an umbrella organization of all these offshoot efforts, flying under the same banner, might at least give the media some pause, seeing the emergence of 2A defenders as more of a larger, and unified force. The NRA included. As a unified teaching tool working in tandem with the already well known and well organized NRA, and in all regions, especially taking the fight where there is the most damage done to the CONSTITUTION. ( like Chicago, NY, NJ, CA )

Ellis can file whatever he wants, gun control is a dead issue in Texas.

You mean a virtual market(with listing of all organizational by location, cost, and services) and a joint promotional campaign?

I’m not sure we could get them all to join but its worth suggesting. The primary goal should be the general promotion of gun sports, safety, skill, and rights.

I wonder how we could implement such a thing and gain media attention to catch fire in the Texas Imagination a passion for gun sports.

My sign for ‘Gun appreciation day’ is -
‘BACKGROUND CHECK OBAMA!’

THEY DON’T WANT TO BACKGROUND CHECK OBAMA, THEN THEY CAN’T BACKGROUND CHECK ME!

This will hit 2 birds with 1 stone - challenge
1. obama’s legitimacy?
2. obama’s moves to take away our right to bear arms
