Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue says he wont enforce any new federal firearms restrictions, joining a chorus of county sheriffs across the U.S. who have publicly denounced President Barack Obamas executive orders.
Donahue issued a statement Thursday calling Obamas orders political posturing.
Im not going to fight hysteria with hysteria, the statement reads.
Sheriffs in Oregon and several other states made similar announcements Wednesday, the day Obama issued 23 actions that dont need congressional approval and apply only to federal law enforcement.
Obamas orders call for, among other things, research into the causes of gun violence. He also has called on Congress to ban military-style assault rifles and large-capacity magazines and to strengthen the background check system.
A lot of sheriffs are now standing up and saying, Follow the Constitution, said Sheriff Gil Gilbertson in southwest Oregons Josephine County.

He should also state that he won’t support the Patriot Act, too. THAT would get some attention.
Well, the Feds already don’t want local authorities enforcing immigration laws so why stop there?
No such luck in Reno NV. Looks like the sheriff here can NOT be counted on. His comments to the Reno Gazette Journal appear to show him as a political hack. No problem with “assault weapons” restrictions or “high capacity magazines” restrictions. Does that sound like someone you could count on? Sadly, he was re-elected unopposed in 2011 and he’s in for a 4 year term. Don’t know if he’s going to be challenged in the next go-round. Sheriff down in Carson City seems to have a different take on it.
Carson City. Noon. Saturday 1/19.
Is the Cabela’s there OUTSIDE the Reno city limits?
If so, is it the same as a brothel? Selling “illegal” gun magazines.
I believe that it is still inside the city limits. Think the closest house of ill repute is east of town. Not that I’m allowed to go anywhere near it.
Ha! We were driving to Virginia City from Tahoe and drove past “Bunny Ranch High School”. We thought it funny that there was a high school, perhaps a whole subdivision, named after a brothel.
