Fresno: Sheriff Margaret Mims addresses gun control

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County's top law enforcer says she's standing with sheriff's across the country- many of whom are coming forward, saying they won't enforce federal gun laws. This comes on the heels of President Obama's new gun violence prevention proposal. 23 executive orders are aimed at gun control.

Sheriff Margaret Mims says there's been a steady increase in concealed carry licenses, ever since the President's re-election in November. In order to handle the demand, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office will now feature online applications on it's website. However, local gun dealers can't keep up with the demand.

Jacob Belemjian says there's a substantial weapons shortage. He manages "The Firing Line" indoor shooting range and gun store in Clovis. He told Action News, "There is not a firearm to be ordered in the distributors are out, the manufacturers are out and they're making guns as fast as they can but customers came in and bought everything that was available to be bought." He also says customers are hoarding ammunition, even buying things they don't need, out of political fear. "People are freaked out that Washington and state government will allow, ban or confiscate... some of their freedoms will be taken away."

Amador and Calaveras county, and I think Eldorado County but not sure, will issue a permit as long as you take the 16 required hours of class and pass the background check. On the line that asks for a “reason” that you want one, I simply put that I wanted to carry for self protection, an answer that is turned down in lots of CA counties, but passes the test in these two counties(maybe three, maybe someone out there from Eldorado county can enlighten us.

My son has an official letter from MM to VP Biden stating that she will not allow any gun grab in Fresno County. I tried to cut and paste it, but I failed. Perhaps someone with more computer skills can post it.

Well for a Democrat, he’s not the worst. He made sure not to try to raise taxes. He was raised in a rural county in Missouri, but he’s still just a politician and this is his second term.

In Missouri, my theory is that a lot of people are leery of one-party rule. So if they vote Pubbie for legislature, they vote Dem for Administration. Kinda like additional checks and balances.

Except for the major big cities, we’re pretty much bitter clingers to religion and guns - even the Dems, so we have a segment of swing voters that will support the “right” candidate as long as they can articulate issues without sounding like a mad man or idiot.

There’s no place in the Union like TEXAS!LOL. If I ever leave Mo. I figure it will be for a place in Texas.

Nice to read this about your area.

I guess there will be nationwide resistance by local police to “comply”!

Maybe I change my residency to the In&Out Burger of Fiorni Road.

I could pick up my CCW on the way to Heavenly.

How long do they last?

What is required to renew?

CCW in CA is good for two years, a person is supposed to take 8 hours of additional classes in order to renew and then you have to pay a renewal fee. My county was 90 bucks for the initial CCW and then 45 bucks for renewal.

PS, In CA you have to live in the county you obtain the license from. It used to be you could get it in any county you wanted too but they(the dimwit politicians)put a stop to that. There was a sheriff that was giving them out to anyone for a $250 license fee in order to generate revenue for his county(forget which one)and it POed the dimwit trolls. He did a he** of a business before they shut him down.

My sister just completed her CCW permit. Helps that her husband is a Sheriff’s deputy in Fresno Conunty. Margaret is a great Sheriff. Think I need to obtain my CCW permit. Our father had one his entire life and carried a colt revolver everywhere he went including millions of flight miles with United Arilines through the 1960’s and 1970’s (he was a member of their million mile club). His permit saved his life or prevented bodily harm while on business in San Fransisco twice, but he never had to discharge his carry gun.

You don't say where in Texas you are. But wherever, you need to come to the Texas Cowboy Memorial shoot in June. It's near Lockhart this year. That's a bit south of Austin, near San Marcos.

We'd love to see your pink rifle.

My last CHL instructor, who lives in Leander, NW of Austin, has a purple AR-15, a purple Glock, and a Purple shotgun. Her husband did that for her.

She shoots in 3 gun matches, beating most or all of the men. Here's the thread on the shoot.

Jim R was at last years shoot, but I missed that one due to it's location and not having any vacation time. Only the second of 7 that I missed. The other was due to having knee replacement surgery. :)

Sounds like you may have run into humblegunner (he's not really been suspended, it's just his warped sense of humor, he made the page that way himself.

BTW, Texas Cowboy was a Korean War era Marine, FReeper extraordinaire, and one heck of a nice guy. We do what he liked to do, we shoot, we talk, and we eat. And do other fun stuff too.

BTW, I have one of those Rugers too, but it's Black, so it's extra evil. It was originally, well, wood colored, but I bought it a nice black stock that came off one used to build up a match tack driver type rifle. Got it cheap.. at an Evil Gun Show... Dallas Arms Collectors, I think. The rifle itself was my first non shotgun firearm. I bought it at a Sporting Goods Store in a Mall(Valley View in Dallas) no less. How times have changed. Now you'd cause a panic walking around a mall with a rifle. :)

40 mi. north of Houston, you really could have run into humblegunner, he’s from Humble, but lives a bit east of there now, IIRC.

I know approximately where he lives. He would probably throw up if he saw a PINK rifle.

What about Homeland Security, Bush and Obama's Schutz Staffel? I can easily imagine them going door-to-door.

Isn't there going to be a domestic security force "...as well armed as the military..."?

The Sheriffs will be pushed aside.

“Marcella, you ever been to carters country on TReaschwig road?”

Yes, in about 1998, my husband and I bought a Remington 243 rifle and a Remington 12 gauge shotgun there. I already had a Colt handgun for me. I still have the rifle and shotgun but those are too heavy for me to control which is why I got the Ruger 22LR.

My son can handle the heavy rifle/shotgun so I bought kill zombies dead for sure various cartridges for those just before ammo started disappearing about a month ago.

I think our Texas firearms are safe since Att. Gen. Greg Abbott says he will arrest any fed coming for guns as soon as he steps on Texas soil. And, I think the bill we have in the legislature to put feds in prison for five years if they try to take our guns, will pass in some form.
