Australia, correctly in my view, does not have a Bill of Rights, so our legislatures have more say than America’s over many issues of individual rights, and our courts have less control. Also, we have no constitutional right to bear arms.

Silly fool, he is. We don't get our rights from a piece of paper (the Constitution). They are only written down to prove that they actually do exist among plenty of others that are not written down!.

I assume that a mechanism is built into Australia’s Constitution to amend it,just as is the case with ours.I could be wrong but I get the distinct sense that Aussies and Canadians,both of whom we have much in common with,have a deeper intrinsic trust in their leaders than do we.If that works for them that’s cool.If I’m wrong then they can amend their Constitution to establish something resembling our Second Amendment.

Our Constitution would not have been ultimately ratified had it not contained the Bill of Rights. The Federalists (Hamilton, et als), who championed a strong national government opposed a Bill of Rights, but the Anti-Federalists, who saw in the original draft of the Constitution some real danger to the people and the states via the implied powers of the national government under the Necessary and Proper Clause, insisted on a Bill of Rights. Thank God for the Anti-Federalists!

At least the guy recognizes the Second Amendment as the legitimate bar on this sort of high-handed government activity that it was designed to be. That’s more than you can say for most of 0bama’s little elves.

Mr Howard seems to lack a deep understanding of our Constitution,those who originally enacted it and at least one of our Supreme Court's recent decisions.If I'm correct it's certainly understandable,just as our politicians being unfamiliar with theirs.I'm pinging a couple of Aussies with whom I'm familiar to see what,if anything,they have to say on the issue.However,they're having a nasty summer heat wave right now so they might be otherwise occupied.

Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and even India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa ~ all formerly governed by British law ~ continue to operate according to the standards normal in a class society where some are nobles with all the privileges, and everybody else is just a commoner.

Such people can never understand freedom.
