There is just a tiny bit of snow left on the ground here. The number of folks without electrical power is down to just a few hundred, and should be zero later in the day, according to the utilities board.
Hope you are safe, dry, and warm.

Safe ,dry and warm have only applied for the last four hours.
Out this morning sledging in it.
Had so little of it as a kid that when i see it now....it has a magnetic attraction.
All of our utilities are underground, so the only thing that usually causes them trouble is flood water.
Now the flood water has retreated, we have snow.
One natural problem at a time, they line up for duty.
Lets hope your folks are reconnected soon, no power in the snow would be horrific.

This is (was) the main road through the Great Smoky Mountains between Tennessee and North Carolina. It is often prone to earth and rock slides, and all the recent rain brought this one about.
It's one of the two decent available routes for me to take to see family in North Carolina, so looks like the other route will take all the traffic for a few months.

More than a yard broom needed there!
Nice looking area,deo.
Soft sandy looking soil, it just had to take the road.
Bet the road trapped the water on the uphill side and caused the slide, it just exploded out from under the hard surface.
Silver birch?

I'm pretty certain there are birch in the area, just not sure if that's what is pictured. Found this on-line pertaining to the Smokies.
Deciduous trees forest most of the low (850 to 2,500 feet) to mid (2,500 to 4,500 feet) elevations. Hickory, yellow poplar (tulip tree), magnolia, sycamore, witch hazel, alder, dogwood, black locust, chestnut oak, scarlet oak and more are frequently seen here. Conifers commonly seen at low to mid elevations include scrub pine (Virginia pine), pitch pine and white pine. Spruce-fir forest along with the mountain maple dominates the high elevations (4,500 to 6,600 feet). Hardwoods including sweet gum and red maple grow abundantly in the cove hardwood forests of the valleys.
In autumn, there is not a more beautiful riot of color and splendor to be found.
