he Algerian government says 32 militants and 23 captives were killed during the three-day military operation to end the hostage crisis at a natural gas plant in the Sahara.
The provisional death toll was issued by the Interior Ministry on Saturday after the special forces operation crushed the last holdout of the militants at the gas refinery, resulting in 11 extremists killed along with seven hostages.

Before we beat up too many people here, keep in mind that Al Quaida is probably the most professional military organization on the planet (maybe Israel comes close, but I doubt it).
When these people take hostages they have TOTAL CONTROL. There is no way that anyone, at all, will be able to rescue them, unless they are released (either through a faked release or a typical release).
The key is to NEVER let them have access to Westerner, and this is where Algeria and the Oil Companies failed.
Thank you Leon! (from the families of the American hostages)

Westerner >> Westerners
It will be a long time (if ever) before we find out what really happened.
Ummm...nope.
It'll have to go to the end of the line. We're still waiting for info on Fast and Furious and Benghazi.
(We still don't know where all the stimulus money went!)
All we do know for sure is that nobama leads “from the rear” and his foreign policy is purposefully expanding moozlim blood-lusting idiocy. What has the drunkard-who-is-prone-to-falling-down and prone to selective-forgetfulness saying?
I hear you, but sorry, no longer true.
Al Quieda doesn’t have “rules of engagement”, they DEFINITELY have it better.
Fortunately Scott Pelley, mega-million anchor of CBS News said the Americans escaped earlier this week. Hooray Obama! /s
You left off the sarcasm tag. These third world cretins from another century are far from being a professional military organization. They are a terrorist organization that has far more failures than successes. And their leadership has been decimated, including OBL.

No sarcasm intended...these guys are very, very, good. They drove the Soviets out of AFG, they kept hitting us, even as we kept thinking that we figured out their methods, and they’re in the process of taking over most of North Africa. I’d say they’re doing quite well.
Bullsh!t. Just because they don’t have ROE doesn’t make them more professional.
True, not more professional, but certainly more effective.
They drove them out with the help of the Taliban and the US, which supplied weapons, including stingers, and intelligence. AQ got their asses kicked by us in Iraq.
theyre in the process of taking over most of North Africa. Id say theyre doing quite well.
You are vastly overstating their reach and capabillities. And you are confusing them with the much broader fundamentalist Islamic movement that started in Iran with Khomeini and has resulted in the Arab Spring.
ALL HOSTAGES DEAD IN ALGERIA
Will be interesting to find out who supplied the terrorists with their weapons...

I guess it goes both ways. Basically what I’m saying is that Kadaffi would still be in power except for Al Queda, and Assad would not be in the fight of his life. Both of these dictators had solid control over their countries...until this outside entity entered, then things were up for grabs.
These guys are good fighters. My point was that a flash-bang grenade or something like that, that might work with the PLO would not work with these guys. There was no way any military was going to save them (the hostages)...they were dead, once they captured the installation.
Are you joking? Don't you think the airpower and weapons supplied by the West had something to do with the overthrow of Qadaffi? We used drones, smart bombs, cruise missiles, etc. to defeat the Qadaffi regime. It would have never happened without that support. And AQ is not the primary force overthrowing Assad anymore than it was the reason Mubarrak fell.

If you have kidnappers who are willing to commit suicide to capture and kill some hostages, it is more difficult to rescue the hostages. But I would bet my money on our Special Ops people to do a far better job than the Algerians. Still, most of the hostages escaped. The hostage takers are dead.
Obama had nothing to do with this event It took place in Algeria where the French would be more likely to have influence. Second in line would be the Brits protecting BP.
The failure is actually at BP where they failed to provide enough contractor mercenaries. That could be because Algeria did not permit enough armed civilians.
The only thing certain is America didn’t have a dog in the fight.
