Watching a replay of NBC Schumer vs. Cruz - Schumer seems fairly confident that both dems and Repubs will come together on this gun debate issue to pass something. They desperately want a universal background check (including private sales, of course).

Cruz questions the number of sales that avoid the check. Gregory says it is 40%. Cruz doesn’t agree.

Gregory plays a portion of the NRA ad and questions how much the NRA helped its cause. Cruz says people can decide for themselves, but there is a fundamental point of hypocrisy brought out by the ad. Doesn’t think it is constructive what the president is doing - pushing an agenda on gun issues designed to appeal to his partisan political buds.

Three reasons why what the pres is pushing is wrong:

1. would have done nothing to prevent crime in Newtown
2.not constitutional
3.they don’t work

Schummer says dems should accept Heller, but people shouldn’t be allowed to own an AR15- nothing to do with constitutionality.

Cruz was pretty good in this round, IMO.

MTP, Ted Cruz responds to comments Colin Powell made about race and politics on the previous Sunday’s MTP. Cruz says even though he respects his service, he was disappointed in Powell’s comments. Cruz says the most racialy divisive comment of the entire election was VP Biden’s comments that if the Repub’s win “they will put y’all back in chains.” Said his heart wept hearing those comment, especially from the VP.

YEEESSSSSSS.....thank you, Sen. Cruz.

They desperately want a universal background check (including private sales, of course).

Universal background check = BATF form 4473 = de facto Universal Registration = end of privacy for honest firearm sellers/buyers

It is to no good or honest effect, of course. ALL gun sales by criminals are private sales. They will never submit to either the invasive paperwork or a background check. So they are committing a crime now? So what else is new?

But of course that is not the point. The point is government identifying every citizen who might have a gun - especially those who might conceivably have a beef about the government's ways.

It makes getting a search warrant for a "potentially illegal" weapon much easier ("we need to check your compliance with the law"). It also gives the authorities something to hang a hostile interrogation onto;... "Where is that gun you bought in June, 2013, now? If you don't have it in your possession, whom did you sell it to or give it to,... illegally? If it was stolen, why wasn't that reported within 24 hours as required by law?"

You get the idea. You are now a criminal. "Toss the house for more criminal evidence!"

An unintended (or perhaps intended) result would be a massive black market in guns by formerly law-abiding citizens. Now, of course, they are part of the criminal class.

This is a dream come true in the minds of the burgeoning fascists.
