"A Global Force for Good" [US NAVY Marketing Campaign goes Limp Wristed]

PrintShare This The strength and status of any nation can be measured in part by the will and might of its navy. That’s not an outdated thought; it’s a modern reality. As the largest, most versatile, most capable naval force on the planet today, America’s Navy epitomizes this idea. And yet, far more impressive is what it does with the distinction.

A symbol of power, a force for stability America’s Navy serves as an essential force of stability in an increasingly unstable and interconnected world – as well as a vanguard for positive change. Why is this important? Because what America’s Navy does each and every day makes the world as we know it possible.

Its the whimpification factor. Back in the day, they recruited people by promising them the opportunity to blow sh!t up, ride tanks and helicopters, and kill bad guys.

Now all the commercials show the military putting our forest fires and delivering aid. If you were a 19 year old guy, which would you find more enticing?

In a way it explains why they all stay home and play call of duty. They can simulate the cool parts without getting up off the couch.

I saw this commercial and it made we want to puke. Whatever became of "prompt and sustained combat operations at see in support of the United States national interest?"

On the other hand it's marketing and the Navy has pretty much always sucked at that.

Anyone remember that recruiting campaign back in the day that went along the lines of "The Navy, it's more than just ships at sea!"

It must have been 1977 because I recall being in the Med and we had T-shirts with that on the front. On the back was a picture of the stern of a carrier sailing away and under it said "but mostly it's just ships at sea."

The last Marine commercial I saw was totally bad @ss.....except all the aid boxes they had packed in their helicopters and Amtracs.

The aid boxes were so they could keep the enemy alive long enough to see the faces of those who sent them to hell, or to collect their 72 Helen Thomas virgins.

“toward the sound of chaos”. It looks like they edited in a truck convoy loaded with “Aid” boxes, and then photoshopped an “Aid” box into the back of an Osprey. This was probably a hard charging commercial edited for sissy consumption.

When I joined it was “It’s not just a job. It’s an adventure!”

And Olongapo was everyone’s favorite liberty port.

From what I read, marketing research found the opposite. Potential recruits liked the badassery, but they wanted to be a part of some kind of “force for good” for lack of a better term. Hence the focus in the recruiting commercials for the Navy and Marine Corps.

Army recruiting is almost always lame (”come play some golf with us...it’s like any other job, bro!”).

My guess is that our tax dollars are being spent to sell the Navy to Obama.

It ain’t gonna work.

When I lived in Santa Barbara, California, in the 1980’s, The Village People song “In The Navy” was the background music on the answering machine at the local Navy recruiting office.

One of my friends flew a lot of the testing on the “Zulu” model. It is amazing after so many years how many things they fixed on the Z model.

I’ve always had a problem with the Navy’s new slogan. The only “good” the Navy does, is destroy anything that is a threat to us.

It’s time to realize that the military is fast becoming just another federal employer with all that that entails.
The warrior class is tolerated and fading. Though I have concerns that Obama is trying to stack the deck in the military with those that might just obey those orders to fire on American citizens.

The Navy is just like the Peace Corps. Make a difference in somebody’s life. Give something back. Be tolerant of people who look different from you. Hate is not a family value.

Looked badass.
