If you live in a small town in Connecticut, you are more likely to have a pistol permit than a city dweller.
While Bridgeport has the highest number of permit holders, several small, rural towns top the list with the highest percentage of their population having a pistol permit.
About 170,000 people in Connecticut have them, and the number of individuals seeking them has increased in recent years.
Attorney Ralph Sherman of New Britain, who has had a pistol permit for about 25 years, said he originally got his because he knew people who had awakened to discover a burglar in their home.
I wondered what I would do in that situation, Sherman said. I dont feel that calling 911 and waiting for help is adequate.

State Sen. Majority Leader Martin M. Looney, D-New Haven, said, Some rural communities are small in population, but large in area. The remoteness and isolation may lead people to (obtain a pistol permit).
State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said resident state troopers can respond quickly to rural areas.
We have acceptable response rates throughout the state, Vance said.
The number of new pistol permits issued each year by state police has grown in recent years. In 2005, there were 5,085 new permits issued. New pistol permits were at 5,611 in 2006 and at 6,670 in 2007. The number increased to 9,601 in 2008 and 15,568 in 2009. There were 12,044 pistol permits issued in 2010, and 12,107 in 2011, according to state police.

Ya’ need a permit to have a pistol? If I have to shoot somebody breaking in and don’t have a permit, which one of us is in the most trouble?
Higher percentage of Connecticut city residents have illegal guns than those in small towns.
Go figure.
No permit to buy or own but to carry concealed.
which shows that more people in cities need to exercise their second amendment RIGHT.
In CT, you need a permit to carry, but not to own in your own home, but in CT, you have a responsibility to run away if someone comes in your home and are only allowed to shoot them if you are cornered
Oh but I am easily cornered. I have a low threshold for cornered-ism.
No permit, period. Gotta love AZ.
I’ve been cornered in the middle of a football field. I saw it a number of times last weekend at the Ravens / Pats game.
