Groupon has canceled, at least temporarily, all of its scheduled and ongoing gun-related promotions, Matt Brownell at Aol Daily Finance reported.

“All scheduled and current gun-related deals featured on Groupon North America, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry and clay shooting, have been placed on hiatus while we review internal standards that shape the deal inventory we feature,” a Groupon spokesperson told Daily Finance.

“The category is under review following recent consumer and merchant feedback.”

Michael Cargill, the owner of a gun shop in Texas, said that his Groupon deal — for a concealed handgun training course — was canceled and that the representative told him Groupon CEO Andrew Mason was behind the decision.

Just unsubscribed to their email list ...

And ... wrote them a short, polite email stating why ... even though I don't own a firearm, nor am I an active user of firearms...

Ended the note with ...

... elections have consequences ....

I did precisely what you did, including the email noting that I don’t even own a firearm.

I heard back. Mealy mouthed scum.

Hi XXXXXXX,

Thank you very much for your feedback. We never intend to upset our subscribers, and we genuinely appreciate your thoughts. I’ll make sure that your opinion is communicated to the appropriate channels.

The deals featured on Groupon are largely shaped by our subscribers’ tastes and requests. We regularly survey consumers and test new types of features across the country, and we encourage local residents to let us know what they think. Similarly, what works in one city may not be embraced in another, and we try to take in local sentiment as much as possible when selecting each region’s local deals.

Again, I apologize if we’ve offended you and appreciate you writing in.

Regards,

Cody M.

Just got a reply from Groupon Customer Support on this matter:

Hi Michael, Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.

We understand that this is a sensitive topic, and that some of our customers may not agree with our choice to pause the promotion of firearm-related deals. Groupon has always aimed to offer a diverse range of products and services to meet the various tastes and interests of our subscribers. However, at this time, enough customers and merchants have voiced their opinions that we believe a hiatus is warranted.

Please note that we have never sold guns, and this hiatus only applies to firearm-related deals including shooting ranges, clay pigeon shooting, and concealed weapons training classes. We have not made a final determination regarding this category -- we are simply taking a break and may reevaluate in the future.

We genuinely appreciate your opinion and the feedback you've given us. I'll be sure to share your comments with the appropriate people.

Regards,

Louiswu -

Received the same form letter today, too.

The libertarian in me says they can run their business their own way and cater to a niche market of anti-firearm/2nd amendment customers.

However, I thought it important enough to let them know that the percentage of those who disagree with them (and don't even own a firearm or attend many shooting classes) that will not do business with them is much higher than expected.

...makes them sweat a bit more to keep the doors open...

"We understand that this is a sensitive topic,..."

This struck me as odd, what is it just now a sensitive topic, this is not the first school shooting, why wasn't it a sensitive topic from the day Groupon open it's doors?

Just curious about that but as long as the policy is in effect I won't be using their services.

In a related Story, Groupon has decided to stop any promotions for Jewish Owned Businesses as well.

Rumor has it that the Fuhrer Obama is pleased with their decision. He gives it 3 Flies Up.
