Speaker John Boehner told House Republicans this afternoon that the GOP’s upcoming budget will balance the federal books in a decade.
Due to the Democrats’ control of the White House and Senate, the possibility of that promise becoming law is remote. But the speaker’s vocal support for the idea reportedly drew cheers within the House Republican conference.
According to sources in the room, Boehner made the pledge at a closed-door meeting in the Capitol basement. The speaker said that Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the budget committee chairman, will lead the effort.
Boehner’s commitment is a signal to House conservatives that the speaker is listening to their demands. Behind the scenes, backbenchers have been pushing Boehner and Eric Cantor, the majority leader, to endorse a 10-year balanced budget.
On Wednesday, insiders say, most conservative lawmakers will begrudgingly back a three-month extension of the debt limit. But before Boehner could finalize the whip count, he needed to make this fiscal assurance in return.
Never happen.
Mr Boehner is an empty man.

I Remember being told by other congresscritters back in the early 80s that the recently passed legislation would stop the flood of illegals from Mexico and SSI financial issues were solved.

What an Idiot. They have been making these promises for years. They mean absolutely nothing. And anyone who thinks we have anything where near 10 years to stop this madness is an idiot too.

John Boohoo Boehner is a total waste of human flesh and can only be classified as an invertebrate. He is an empty suit looking for a hanger. The only people he is fooling by delaying his usual modus operandi, caving and lying about the cave, are the people in his district that evidently love having a Progressive posing as a Republican as their representative. He has absolutely no business being in politics because he has no convictions. He is not now nor has he ever been a conservative and he despises, hates, loathes and detests conservatives, especially the newly elected TEA party Representatives BECAUSE HE LOOKS AT THEM AND SEES WHAT HE CAN NEVER BE...A STATESMEN.
10 years will slip to 12 then 15 later to 20 and disappear. Hopefully he will do the honorable thing and retire, take his pension and leave the salvation or the Republic to men and not useless human debris.
