So not only did Beyoncé lip sync her performance, but she essentially forced the Marine Corps band to pretend to be playing their instruments.
Kristin DuBois, a spokesperson for the band, said "the Marine Band did perform live throughout the ceremony but we received last-minute word that Beyoncé wanted to use the recording.”

The Marine Corps prides itself on being the best they can be. That motto also applies to the President’s Own. They are some of the best musicians in the country, with extensive advanced training and degrees in their field.
Requiring rigorous physical training standards means you are not going to get the best musicians. They will join other musical ensembles and are good enough to qualify.
The musicians in President’s Own are second to NO other musicians in the U.S. military.
Beyonce put them in a bad light by insisting that they use their pre-recorded track.
Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor went live and all the rest of the band music was played live.
As was the band music they played in the parade.
As was the band music they played at the Commandant’s Ball that evening.
The band was on duty from roughly 4 AM to 11 PM yesterday.

I daresay they might prefer to play in weather like that yesterday than in the D.C. summer heat and humidity.
I’ve been to outdoor evening summer concerts of the President’s Own when I was sweating like a pig just sitting there listening.
They also play funeral processions and ceremonies at Arlington in the summer mid-day heat and humidity (95 tp 100º) in full uniform - wool pants and jackets. Those can last for a couple of hours - standing at attention. No falling out permitted.
They’re a tough, determined bunch.
As a former Marine, I can honestly state I never faked it...although I have had a few dishonorable discharges...I’m jes’ sayin’.
