If I can't have an M14 anymore (because it is an evil assault weapon or something), I'll take a "Tanker" Garand as a consolation prize.
Ive been trying to find one..none to be found. Plus they have doubled in price.
That’s good. I’ve always wanted to try and shoot a little skeet with a youth 20GA. For some reason I think it would work out right.... short LOP and nice round.
Hey, the wife says she would prefer my 12GA Mossberg 835 Turkey tactical with the tac stock, 20” barrel, and some of my 3 1/2 inch shells. Nice and short for a sophisticated lady. Big boom.
...to each his own, I guess.
I have that same Marlin .22 mag except mine is blued and wood stock. It is not particularly well finished and the mag looks like it would have problems feeding as the tip of the bullet is a ways from the chamber. It sort of looks like the cartridge is hanging in the air.
However it has never failed to feed perfectly and it is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. I am not saying most accurate rimfire but most accurate period.
A few years back Wal-Mart cleared out the 10 round mags and I bought 7 or 8 or them at $5.00 each.
It sort of reminds me of the days when a few guys would have a very plain looking 50s or 60s car. On the outside it looked like it probably had a six cylinder with a 3 on the tree. Look under the hood and it had a 427 with all the extras and a Borg Warner 4 speed, positraction etc.
It doesn’t look like much but it really performs.
Copper plated 30 grain HP. I think they are about 1700 fps.
They shoot pretty flat out to 100 yds and will really spoil a woodchuck’s day.
It is my favorite 22, i do hate the 4 round magazine. Wish I had been smart (like you) and grabbed a few 10 round mags. Maybe next year when the rush is over. :)
I have a circa 1960 Remington Model 550 (Semi-Auto, tube fed) that I inherited from my Dad and I absolutely love it...
If you live in NY you better find one before April 15, 2013. After that it will be illegal to purchase any weapon that comes with a 10 round mag. Yes, they outlawed the 10/22 magazine.
allowed and appreciated due to your humility
Thanks for the link. I appreciate the info.
It has a tubular magazine and holds 15+ rounds and gets around any limitations placed on magazine size, past or future. With a Weaver V22 scope on it...it is quite a nice piece to have in the cabinet.
A .22 round to the head is lethal very quickly. From about 50-100 feet, it goes in but does not exit. It tends to bounce around inside the melon doing all sorts of damage. Lights out.
Does anyone know where I can get dove-tail scope rings? Tried a search but didn’t recognize many of the results.
Word of mouth is best. Especially from FReeper FRiends.
There was a time, when Ruger made the 10/22 in .22 WMR (magnum)
You can find some used ones for a price.

Who’s gonna take one gun anyway lol
They point out on the procedural shows ("Law & Order", "CSI:insert city here", "NCIS", etc. that the .22 is the hit-man's gun at close range. Deforms the bullet while bouncing around in the head, making it hard to match to the gun. But that could be H'wood over-dramatizing its effectiveness.
While I am not making any claims about their zombie killer, I like the idea of the 10/22 in a Bullpup layout. I haven’t found that at Magnum Research.
I prefer the Taurus Judge carbine, which is really a revolver with long barrel and stock. Shoots 410 shotgun and 45 LC pistol rounds.
if you can't find them, let me know. I may still have info or bookmarks from when I was looking.
Assuming it hits an an angle where it penetrates, certainly. However, it’s not a sure thing.
There’s a reason nobody in the business of using a handgun in a serious defense capacity carries a .22lr, nor do any militaries issue weapons using that cartridge (nor have they ever).
