President Barack Obama could never have done this in his first term. If he’d tried to pass a slate of gun control measures such as the ones announced last week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would have joined forces with Republicans and gun rights organizations to stop him. But with no election in his future, the president is operating with new “flexibility.”
Reid may still try to stop him, but the president has come up with a long list of items that won’t work. We’re dealing with emotion here — and possibly a long-term strategy to — what? If the president’s goal is to eliminate gun violence, he will have to find a way to take away guns, no easy task.
So like everything else progressives do, it has to be done incrementally.
And with incrementalism, there must also come great emotion. So the president surrounded himself at his announcement with children and used their letters as the basis for national policy. What the children suggested in their letters was probably just as useful as what the president proposed: essentially, “make people safer.”
And so the Great_Divider spent a bunch of political capital on such useless ideas as “removing barriers” from this and that and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.
Emotion tells the president that 10-round magazines will save lives. Logic says it won’t make any difference.
In the unlikely event that many of these initiatives get passed, and the even more unlikely event that any of them work, Obama also set the stage for the next level. The one-time constitutional lecturer explained that there are “rights” in our founding documents that might override the Second Amendment.
For example, the right to worship safely. The right to assemble peacefully. These rights, the president told his TV audience, are threatened...

Reid has an NRA B+ rating, but he is first and foremost, a leftist.
Reid is done.
He loses support of his Obama buddies and loses gun owner support.
He up for re-election in 2014 I think.
Obama’s aim had better be good or he will lose on gun control AND lose the Senate.
No. He’s not running again.
He needed the NRA to be re-elected. Now that he doesn’t need them, he cannot be relied upon for gun rights.

The Dem/libs have been engaging in a slow but steady push to limit our right to own guns and reduce the number of guns in private hands for decades. And this is how it has been working out for them in the last two decades...
If the lefties keep pushing gun control this way in another two decades one out of two Americans may be gun owners instead of one out of three.

I can imagine that his replacement will be appointed by His Holiness Barack the First shortly after his coronation on January 1st, 2017.

I have repeated your logic many times on this site. People don’t want to hear it. Compulsory collection points will be established with deadlines set for compliance: 1st failure to comply=$5000 fine, second failure=$10,000 fine and so on. The govt has the power to drain your bank and financial accounts electronically. They IRS has all the account codes. WE must, at some point, go all in cash or suffer the consequences.
There are many instances of government seized private property that even after the charges are dropped or the accused acquitted is never returned.
Being a independent trucker, there are endless accounts of IRS freezing bank accounts without the account holder even knowing it. The bank fees are horrendous. And don’t get me started on fees and interest on IRS fines. Alot of folks I know just pay the fines and go on.
As far as transactions in cash, you’d better not own any real estate. The liens against such property can never be discharged and once again the insurmountable interest and fees.

My fear is with Leon Panetta allowing women in combat, they will be the military personel who come for the weapons. A judeo/christian country has been taught to not behave in a way that hurts women. Hesitation can prove to be deadly and many will not want to shoot a soldier with a young girls face.
Exactly, if they pass the “new” gun laws, an estimated 50 million citizens will become criminals, while criminal aliens are free to roam the country, not just unhindered, but often rewarded. Of what value is citizenship?
