'My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.'
The infamous line from 'The Princess Bride' has been repeated the world over by fans of the cult classic but some Aussies on a Qantas flight on Sunday didn't appreciate the humor.
Wynand Mullins boarded his Sydney flight wearing a T-shirt with the movie quote and was asked to change his attire after his fellow passengers complained that they felt threatened.

what specifically is threatening about my post?
I have not argued the right of the man in question to wear his shirt...only the wisdom in doing so. Again just because we have the right to do something doesn’t mean we should do it.
The pearl clutchers would make a Sikh remove his turban if a passenger felt threatened.
Yep. And I would've told others on the plane about it had I been on it.
Can a dark skinned Muslim get on a plane with YOU KILLED MY FAMILY. PREPARE TO DIE on his shirt????????
He can leave off the name because it is still a movie quote, isnt it.
Is it? What movie? Is it a comedy? Are you refering to the particular quote in question? If so, it is complete only with the name. W/O it, it changes the entire idea.
ANYONE who gets on a plane with a words PREPARE TO DIE is an thoughtless idiot.
Probably. But like I said in a post to another FReeper, he probably wasn't even thinking about the situation ... just put on a funny shirt.
How about children who dont know that is a movie quote. Who can read. Who can know terrorists take down planes.
A simple explanation would've helped.
I have not argued the right of the man in question to wear his shirt... post only the wisdom in doing so. Again just because we have the right to do something doesnt mean we should do it. Fixed it for you.
Feelings according to you out weigh everything else.
not looking to hire an editor at this point but thanks anyway
you may think it unwise for me to continue to post on this thread but I have the right to do so
your feelings regarding my threatening post may be misplaced but you are still entitled to those feelings regardless
Sure he did Kreskin...
I wasn't taking you seriously before. Now I'm certain you are an idiot.
Hehhe...
“Feelings, nothing more than Feeeeellings...”
Nice to know the TSA’s war on shirts is proceeding in earnest!
The pearl clutchers would make a Sikh remove his turban if a passenger felt threatened.
If a Sikh was in the seat next to me on a plane I would strike up a conversation with them about the history of their people. Especially their early military victories against the Moguls. I love stories where the Bad guys get their butts kicked by a righteous people who have had enough and created a religion of knights to beat back the savages.
You should go back to DU were you fit in.
you may think it unwise for me to continue to post on this thread but I have the right to do so
Feelings are more important than your rights, so you must stop posting otherwise your whole original post to DC is proven wrong.
Public Transportation
It is like driving a car with a bunch of Hitchhikers in it.
actually I quite well understood your sarcasm...I just decided to play along it seems you are unable to
I actually am quite conservative both politically and socially if you were to read my other posts. I am assuming that your DU reference is meant to be insulting. Nice try, I am pretty thick skinned.
if you were to re-read my original post on the subject you would find that I said the reaction of those on the plane was open for debate
Just because you seem slow to understand my point I will make it one more time... I believe that this gentleman has the right to wear his shirt. I do believe however that he Knew he would get the reaction he got and was looking for attention. The article even implies he enjoyed it. He was not made to remove his shirt.
Freedom of speech/expression goes both ways. He was entitled to wear the shirt and the other passengers on the plane were entitled to tell him what they thought of it.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Note to myself. If I'm more than an hour late to the party, my witty lines have already been used. Dang.
Wow, you think that one person has the right to force someone else to do something because of feelings. They tried to have him change his shirt because someone was afraid. You think that is ok so you think feelings are more important, you are a dumass.
hmmm.... speaking of DU perhaps it would be a good fit for you
using crass language when debating ideas is a favorite tactic of the left. disappointed to see name calling on free republic
He was not made to remove his shirt...it was suggested by the flight attendant not the passengers...should she have done so, no but the people on the flight were perfectly within their rights to say they did not like his shirt.
Crass language ha ha ha.
Your syllogism, as it were, doesn’t hold up. We now know more about Islam than we did in 2000, which is to say it is the opposite of a religion of peace.
If the person sitting next to you were readily identifiable to as a muslim, and he greeted you with ‘Allahu Akhbar’, the odds of catching him personally displaying any scintilla of humor - either in his dress or through his speech/actions - would be unlikely.
Even if you don’t know what the movie is about, many, if not most, folks would ask “Who is Inigo Montoya?”
They would not ask, “Is it your intention to blow up this airplane?”, though it is a very reasonable question to ask. Had any halfwitted airline employee asked that question, the man with the shirt would have explained that it was a movie line.
While the bald doofus wearing the shirt would be guilty of bad taste in dress, and perhaps of whoring attention, it probably wouldn’t rise to the level of ‘clear and present danger’.
Thereafter, however, anyone feeling threatend by the man wearing the shirt would have been able to learn from the newly edified employee that there was nothing at all to worry about, since the shirt was quoting a line - and a funny one - from the movie.
Lord help me if I choose to wear a ‘Governator’ T-shirt. People may wonder whether I’m a) running for governor of California, or b) about to kill an entire precinct full of police officers, or c) whether I’m a cybernetic organism sent from the future to kill Sarah Connor.
I’m much more nervous sending my three young children into local buildings marked ‘Gun Free Zone’ than I am sitting next to idiots.
I wouldn’t want my young children sitting next to people wearing shirts like the one this guy has on a plane
You can let yours sit next to a guy wearing a shirt that says Kill Whitey but I don’t want it to happen on a plane.
I don’t care what any of you think..the guy is an idiot to wear a shirt like that on a plane.
