Anti-Defamation League: Stop using Nazi analogies in gun debate

The Anti-Defamation League is calling on critics of gun control legislation to stop using references to Hitler and the Nazis, calling such statements “historically inaccurate and offensive,” especially to Holocaust survivors and their families.

The ADL cites the following examples in a new press release:

The Drudge Report, under the headline “White House Threatens ‘Executive Orders’ on Guns,” featured photos of Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin (Jan. 9).

Former Major League pitcher John Rocker wrote on WorldNetDaily.com about what he described as “…the undeniable fact that the Holocaust would never have taken place had the Jewish citizenry of Hitler’s Germany had the right to bear arms and defend themselves with those arms” (Jan. 15).

During an interview on the Fox News Channel, Lars Larson suggested that, “…if the president does it that way, everybody in America will be required to go in and give fingerprints…. It will be ‘your papers, please’ like Nazi Germany” (Jan. 9).

Ohio State Board of Education President Debe Tehrar reportedly posted a photo of Adolf Hitler on Facebook with a variety of anti-Obama, pro-gun slogans and images (Jan. 23).

Sean Hannity suggested on TalkingPointsMemo.com that “defeating the Nazis was a much more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby” (Jan. 23).

Judge Andrew Napolitano, senior judicial analyst at Fox News, suggested in a column on Fox News.com that, “If the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto had had the firepower and the ammunition that the Nazis did, some of Poland might have stayed free and more persons would have survived the Holocaust (Jan. 10).

“We know that the national debate over gun control is one of the most divisive issues in the land, and while Americans are entitled to have strong opinions, there is also language that is inappropriate and offensive in any such discussion,” Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director and a Holocaust survivor, said in a statement. “The idea that supporters of gun control are doing something akin to what Hitler’s Germany did to strip citizens of guns in the run-up to the Second World War is historically inaccurate and offensive, especially to Holocaust survivors and their families.”

ADL would have had more credibility just keeping their mouths shut rather than taking the wrong (and incorrect) side of this argument. They’re going to regret issuing this statement, I think.

I resent the “Anti-Defamation League” using Holocaust survivors and their families to push a liberal gun control agenda and to attempt to shut down discussions that include historical facts. Americans died in the war against Hitler - a war that might not have happened if Jews had kept their guns.

It wasn't a forgone conclusion that the good guys would win World War II - with a few slight changes Hitler could have taken it.

If the ADL wants to do something that matters, they could stop Obama from sending the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt a bunch of fighter jets. Jets that will be used against Israel ... or us.

And the ADL needs to stop using the Holocaust as an excuse to prop up the ideas of one party.

In answer to Abe Foxman:

I’m an American. I’ll use any damned analogy I please. I have people who died in that war too. Direct family members. They died FIGHTING, in both Europe and the Pacific.

It’s called The Bill or Rights, First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. You don’t like it, you can always move somewhere else; that’s YOUR right.

The Democrats copied Nazi gun control language in the 1968 Gun Control Act - it’s where we got the wonderful “hunting and Sporting Purpose Use” refrain we keep hearing. Senator Thomas Dodd (father of Sen Chris Dodd) LIFTED the text from the 1935 German gun control laws and copied into American law, rammed through by the Dems after MLK and RFK.

Aaron Zellman from JPFO.org discovered it after laying out the text side by side and doing a read-through. He was an American Jewish citizen, a Patriot, and a great man, and he is missed greatly by those of us who understand what is being done to this great country - and exactly who is doing it.

See http://jpfo.org/filegen-a-m/GCA_68.htm for reference.

So - it’s pretty simple - when the Democrats stop using Nazi and communist gun control techniques and methods, we’ll stop exercising our Right to call them Nazis and communists.

A better question for Abe Foxman might be why do YOU support a political party that uses Nazi language, techniques, and methods and then stand there with supposed moral indignation when Citizens call them on it?
