Our local Home Depot in San Diego now has an armed guard outside.
Anybody else see them in other places?

A few years back, a national chain opened a grocery store in a "food desert" in a city near me. There was an armed guard there at all times that it was open and it was open 24 hours a day.

The store was bleeding money, having to pay salary to the guards plus all the shop lifting. The guards weren't there to prevent shop lifting, they had in store security for that. The guards were there to prevent armed robberies, they stopped a few. The store finally had to close when one of the guards was murdered during a robbery. The rise in their liability premiums finished the store off, they closed the doors after 2 years in business.
