The Burlington Police Department last week found itself in a crossfire between the Burlington City Council and the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club.

The club’s Morristown shooting range is no longer allowing the police department to train there because its executive board feels the city council is infringing on Second Amendment freedoms.

A travesty, I tell ya.

Now they’re going to have to PAY for range time somewhere else to master the skill of shooting Fido.

Those gun club guys must be evil rich white guys or something....

Huh. Our local gun club is used regularly by police departments as well as individual State Troopers.

Police officers all have to meet qualification standards, but vary tremendously as to individual skill levels in combat shooting.

Most will, hopefully, go most of their careers without even drawing, let alone, firing their weapons on the job.

There's one particular State Trooper who shows up regularly to practice at one of our outdoor ranges. He appears to take proficiency very seriously and is firing at targets from concealment, on his belly, etc. When I see his cruiser parked I just steer clear and let him have that range to himself.

As far as I know club policy is to extend the facilities to the police as a courtesy. They're never there on weekends and don't make use of the indoor range which is small bore .22 only.

Payback is a biotch. Newton’s third law of motion proved, once again, to be true.

They used to do that at Mine too. Until the County “Wannabe” weekend Swat team started trying to train simulated under fire manuvers. Jumping, landing on matresses while trying to shoot kind of stuff. Ended up spraying bullets a half mile down the road into a establishment.

LEO’s no longer allowed to use facilities for such “training”. I am personallly not impressed with their abilities. More like Spray and pray.
