Email | 25 Jan 2013 | Lindsey Graham

Posted on 01/25/2013 12:48:54 PM PST by aomagrat

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you.

In spite of the high volume of mail I receive daily, I look forward to reviewing your correspondence and providing a personal response as soon as possible.

As we continue our work in the 113th Congress, I look forward to supporting our troops in the War on Terror, repairing our economy and creating jobs, strengthening Social Security, lowering the tax burden on American families, and making the federal government more accountable and efficient.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of further assistance to you or your family, and if you need immediate assistance, please call my office at 202-224-5972. If your correspondence pertains to a scheduling request, please fax your request to (202) 224-3808.

Sincerely,

Lindsey Graham

“I got a personal reply from Fred Thompson, but that is the only Senator I have had who spent the time trying to remain in touch.”

I got several personal responses from Kay Bailey Hutchinson while she was senator. They were to letters where I disagreed with her position, too.

Opposed her for governor, and planned to support her opponent if she had chosen to run for Senator in 2012, but I did respect her for answering her mail.

You are more likely to receive a personal response from Li Lo than from your alleged representative in the swamps of D.C. How many people they each have on staff? They are heads of medium size corporations, and their jobs as CEOs is to show their faces, read speeches written by others, and collect money for re-election. They don’t write the legislation and they don’t read it, and they don’t write “personal” letters to the suckers out there. Your Senator is not your friend any more than Sylvester Stallone is your friend. Get real!

Must be mail dump Friday.

I got mail from McCaskill (About our efforts to free Jon Hammer) months after I had written her for help.

Got a letter from Billy Long who said he would vote for the Silver Star Service Banner IF it came to a vote. (It was made permanent in the House years ago)

In other words folks, we HAVE no representation.

That is what is boils down to.

I always get one of these automated responses before I get a response on the issue. YMMV

“Anyways it’s good to keep sending emails. They may not respond but they do keep tabs on where the public stands on any given issue.”

Rubbish. They don't keep tabs and they don't care where the public stands. In the words of Trent Lott “Let ‘em call, we'll do what we want.” We have allowed a political class to develop and they could care less what "We The People" think. Term limits is the only answer and unfortunately that will not happen. Short of a miracle we are on the slow, slippery decline to oblivion!

I hate to prove you wrong but here’s a response to an email I sent:

As we continue our work in the 109th Congress, I look forward to supporting our troops in the War on Terror, repairing our economy and creating jobs, strengthening Social Security, lowering the tax burden on American families, and making the federal government more accountable and efficient.

This is obviously how they spend their time in DC, in meetings deciding how to not communicate with the people they represent.

Don’t forget Dead Ted (now sober three years, 5 months) Kennedy saying he wasn’t elected to represent the people in his district, but to vote his conscience. As if he *had* one!

Today, I got a personal reply to an email such as yours from a Colorado State Senator (Scott W. Renfroe), and he invited me to go speak at the senate about allowing teachers to carry CCW at schools.

I’m still debating on whether I should go or not.

Here’s the letter, BTW:

Good morning,
As you know, I’m running a bill to allow teachers to carry a concealed weapon. Knowing that you support this bill, I want to give you the opportunity to testify in support of the bill, SB 13-009.
My bill will be in committee Monday, the 28th for discussion and debate. If you would like to testify in support of the bill, it will be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee at 1:30 Monday, the 28th. The committee meets in Senate Committee Room 356, the third floor of the state capitol, east side of the building.
Senator Scott W. Renfroe
Republican Caucus Chairman

...love the part about “lowering the tax burden.” I wonder if the guy can keep a straight face writing and saying that.

As you well know, this is a typical congresscritter response letter. There are words but no statement of intent or meaning.

It’s a waste of your time to open the envelope.
