Never. Although a group of officers is addressed as "Gentlemen" without the "young" in front of it.
I remember being addressed with the adjectives starting with “you piece of” or “you pile of”. When I was addressed simply by my last name I could feel the love.
I recall being addressed by both senior officers and Chiefs as “Son”. I never took exception to it at the time. I never viewed it as degrading or insulting, though I have heard some do.
Funny, though...never had a LT or below refer to me as “Son”. They were probably too close to us in age to do that...:)
