Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is sharing his regrets about his "fiscal-cliff" strategy, less than a month after the House bitterly swallowed a last-minute deal hatched in the Senate.
In a private speech to the Ripon Society on Tuesday, Boehner said that he should have taken a different course after the November election by immediately demanding that the Senate produce a bill to avert the worst parts of a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that were due to hit on Jan. 1.
Instead, Boehner delivered a formal speech at the Capitol on the day after President Obama won a second term, in which he offered a major Republican concession new tax revenue as part of a broader fiscal deal.
Looking back, what I should have done the day after the election was to make it clear the House has passed a bill to extend all of the current tax rates, the House has passed a bill to replace the sequester with cuts in mandatory spending, and the Senate ought to do its work, Boehner said. Were ready, able and willing to work with the Senate as soon as they produce a bill. It should have been what I said. You know, again, hindsight is 20-20.

I no longer give a smelly Obama about bonehead.
Here, loser, have another drink.
Boehner is not part of the opposition in DC, he's part of the Ruling Elite, and their only goal is to keep the plates spinning on the sticks for a little longer, until the whole damned thing crashes.
He should step down.
He’s basically saying that he’s not cut out to negotiate with the Democrats.
THEN WHY THE HELL IS HE STILL THERE!!!!
Once again have to double check to see if it’s from The Onion or similar.
It does no good to be sorry once you have been a part of president Obamas destroy America. You and judge Roberts. Who cares now.
Will someone tell Bohner that all revenue bills are to originate in the House, according to Art.1 sec 7!
This is the reason the GOP isn't fit to survive.
To Quote Dirty Harry Callahan “ A man’s got to know his limitations” It seems the Dems know Boehner’s better then he knows himself!
That’s too nice. I say his evil moves were deliberate.
Good grief...this guy needs to go. He’s more concerned with his golf game than the American people.
I’m full of regret too, Boehner. I regret how easily you gave away the only card you held. And now you give it away for another three months without getting a single spending cut in return.
Try the veal, I'm here all week.
Lucy and the football.
Please, please, please residents of the 8th District in Ohio...VOTE THIS A-HOLE OUT IN 2014. At this point I don’t CARE if it’s a libtard, leftwing, socialist, facist Democrat.
This is the second time Boehner has tried to make himself out not to be part of the establishment in the past week alone, but we know his record. If he genuinely regrets all he has done, he should step down. If not, then we will gladly move to push him over when the next election day comes around in Ohio.
Sorry, John. You’ve been given every chance to redeem yourself, and you’ve failed each time. Start packing.
What a putz.
Think I could take the bastard just shrugging his shoulders and saying "Oops" better.
