War Crimes: How Nazis Escaped Justice in South America
Spiegel OnLIne ^ | 01/24/2013 | Felix Bohr

--snip-- How could so many criminals manage to go unpunished, even though they were clearly guilty? It's a conundrum that mystifies academics to this day. Was it because of the lack of cooperation by West German officials? The lack of interest on the part of South America regimes? Were there even secret ties and collaboration between Nazis on both sides of the Atlantic?

Historian Daniel Stahl has conducted research in European and South American archives in the process of writing a new book entitled "Nazi Hunt: South America's Dictatorships and the Avenging of Nazi Crimes." The work supplies a certain and disgraceful answer to what has long been suspected: that there was a broad coalition of people -- across continents and within the courts, police, governments and administrations -- that was unwilling to act or even thwarted the prosecution of Nazi criminals for decades.

Old News. Most Nazis are dead from old age or close to it. A more pressing question is why Stassi agents are able to escape persecution for “crimes against humanity” since the wall fell.

Oldest story in the whole world. I feel like we’re in a time-warp.

There were undoubtedly some extraordinarily guilty people who hid out in South America. But there were also lower-ranking party members and military who moved there at the same time. Where do you draw the line with the vague charge of “complicity”?

Meanwhile, thousands of communists have come to the US from various countries in Europe, and have been welcomed by left-wing groups, who camouflage their identities under such terms as “anti-fascist.” In Russia, former killers from the secret police have retired on comfortable pensions, some writing their own self-congratulatory memoirs telling how many enemies they murdered.

The unabashed Stalinist Paul Robeson is still honored here, as by named parks, programs, and streets (one in Princeton, NJ), with no mention of the details of his collaboration with a murderous regime.

At this point, there is little reason to keep searching for superannuated Nazis, almost all of whom must by now be deceased.

By focussing exclusively on ancient wrongs, we ignore what has gone on since, and up to the present day. Is this perhaps a convenient way of avoiding present threats by making the past seem the sole locus of evil?

“National socialism” (Hitler’s name for his system) is worldwide perhaps the commonest form of government going. And what are we doing about that? We largely ignore true refugees from many of those regimes, but admit millions on people who are not fleeing tyranny, just so they seem likely to support to present regime in Washington.

Pardon me for being somewhat skeptical about these matter.

A “new study”? America had its favorite Nazi officer and slave labor master, von Braun. Because of his work uncounted British civilians were killed and maimed but this old Nazi is given honors and position in the U.S.

After the war ended it was business as usual.

The V2 had the distinction of probably killing more workers building it, than it did when it was used. It was built by concentration cam slaves that were worked to death and replaced.
While it was an amazing technological leap, without a nuke warhead, it was ineffective as a weapon.

Consider one fact, the -entire- amouth of explosives delivered by the V2 during the war, was about the same as a single 1000 plane raid by the 8th Air Force.
So all that effort produced something we could and did do a few times a week by late ‘44 and into ‘45.

And yet no Allied bomber pilot was honored with wealth and position in Germany after the war. I guess the Germans just didn't have any gatitude.

The V-2 was a terror weapon like the monstrous rail mounted guns. And none that changes who and what von Braun was.

Replace the word Nazi with Democrat, and several of the names with names like Holder, Obama, and Reid; remove the dates and it would be difficult to distinguish this story from many current events.
