Barack Obama on the media
By DYLAN BYERS | 1/27/13 12:01 AM EST
The New Republic has just lifted the embargo on its wideranging interview with President Obama, in which he talked at length about the role the media can play in breaking Washington's partisan gridlock.
"One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates," he tells editor Frank Foer and owner and publisher Chris Hughes. "If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then youll see more of them doing it."
We've often noted here on the blog that right-wing media, especially Fox and Limbaugh, have an outsized influence on Republicans -- and are arguably more powerful than most members of congress. But Obama notes that left-wing media plays a role in shaping political debate, as well.
"The same dynamic happens on the Democratic side," he said. "I think the difference is just that the more left-leaning media outlets recognize that compromise is not a dirty word. And I think at least leaders like myselfand I include Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in thisare willing to buck the more absolutist-wing elements in our party to try to get stuff done."
The president also faulted nonpartisan media outlets for their adherence to "he said, she said" journalism, which places equal blame on Democrats and Republicans when, according to the president, Republicans should bear more blame.

If this Disgusting POS actually believes the crappola coming out of his own mouth, then he is delusional and unfit for office.
Oh, PUH-LEEZE!
As long as it's the Republicans that are doing the compromising.
If Bush had said a similar thing people would have caught how thuggy it sounds. Compromise? Gimme a break - that means ‘giving into the left’. Lucky for Obama most of the press is lined up to kiss his butt... they won’t notice.
Zero can get away with it because he knows the “media” will cover for him (and other Dems). Look at how he said he will not compromise on the debt ceiling but complains that Repubs won’t compromise on “gun control”. The “media” won’t make the connection (even if it crosses their mind) and ask him about his own compromises.
Oh I get it now. Left = reasonable and accommodating; right = rigid and unyielding. Yes, Zero has been doing an excellent job of improving this by leading by example, while Boehner hasn’t caved once. (do I HAVE to /s?)
Oh, that's right. Obama can never tell the truth.
So . . . 0bama admits that the media “shapes debates”
