Street clashes killed at least 30 people in Egypt's Port Said on Saturday, after 21 supporters of a local soccer club were sentenced to death over a bloody stadium riot in the canal city, AFP reports.

The violence came a day after nine were killed in protests against President Mohammed Morsi on the second anniversary of Egypt's uprising against predecessor Hosni Mubarak, the worst crisis he has faced since taking power in June.

Trouble erupted just minutes after a Cairo court handed down the sentences against fans of Port Said over the deaths of 74 people during post-match violence last February.

Protesters attacked police stations and set tires alight and relatives of those who were sentenced clashed with security forces as they tried to storm the prison in Port Said where the defendants are being held, according to the AFP report.

Some of the attackers used automatic weapons against police who responded with tear gas, witnesses said.

The clashes left at least 30 people dead and 312 wounded, the health ministry said. The interior ministry said two policemen were among those killed. Medics told AFP all the fatalities were from gunfire.

Crowds stormed two police stations as heavy shooting crackled through the city, where shops and businesses had closed, the report said.

It wasn’t just because of the riot. The 25 people sentenced were sentenced under sharia, and the final words of their sentence were that they were to be “handed over to the Mufti,” that is, the Islamic religious authority, to be put to death.

So while they’re protesting the death sentences, what the presss doesn’t tell you is that the big issue is that the “trial” was conducted - and the executions will be carried out - under sharia.

European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on Saturday expressed "great concern" over the violence, urging the authorities "to restore calm and order" and appealing for restraint on all sides.

Do they teach journalism students how to tell a story these days, or is that something left to the days when the Democratic Party wasn't a death cult?

Did the rioters free the condemned?

Did they turn the police station and/or prison to rubble? If not, why not?

Are death sentences normal after soccer riots?

Do the latest rioters have guns, or are they left to the mercy of government agents?

Great Caesar's Ghost! What worthless reporting! The remaining questions abound!

Every time one of these internationalist creeps appeal for “restraint on both sides,” they are giving a green light for the side with the most guns or the worst attitude, whichever is more marked, to start shooting. Did she urge Mubarak to ‘restore calm and order’ in Tahrir Square?

Forget about rugby or American football - for the serious injuries and high death count, soccer can’t be beat.

Well, there is Roman gladiating, but if they’d force the lions to eat their fellow Muslims, that would be cruelty to animals.
