Sure. Rush pulled his support of Pat Buchannan-96 because of his stance on NAFTA, GATT.
NAFTA precludes the three trading partners from nationalizing their energy industries. This means that Canada and Mexico now sell oil and gas to the U.S. on the same terms as the rest of the world -- except they are not OPEC countries.
This is a big reason why -- since sometime around the late 1990s or early 2000s -- Canada and Mexico have both surpassed Saudi Arabia as the largest foreign suppliers of oil to the U.S.
