My best guess is that it will lead back to where they were tested. Have pictures of some tests from my son.....circa 1990.

Dont they advertise these buy-back events as “no questions asked”? Offering those who turn in weapons that have been used in deadly crimes the opportunity to get away wituout being caught?

This was not “bought back” but sold separately.

It’s a legally purchased Redeye launcher and it will likely be returned.

It’s newsworthy, sure, but the REAL reason the guv and media is so sensitive to this now is their awareness that a little less than 22 THOUSAND of those are floating around the black market.

AND THAT OUR GUV HAD A HAND IN IT.

And that now that that op is a huge GF they have no reliable way of knowing that these suckers aren’t lurking around the end of the runways of Boston-Logan, and Vegas, and Kennedy, and O-Hare.

Most of them are in Syria and Sinai, but over the long-run it’s unlikely that at least a couple will not find their way into CONUS.

They quit making the Redeye in 1969.

As a legal inert Milsurp purchase, that launcher is at least 44 years old.

The missile was still deployed at least through 1982 when it began to be replaced by the Stinger MANPAD.

Yep, they made 85 thousand from about 1968 to 1969 and then stopped. Any Redeye launcher is at least that old.

They began to withdraw them from service in 1982.

They lingered for quite awhile, though.

There are probably still a few out there in use in the 3rd world.

The U.S. military made the ones left in stock inert and auctioned them off.

My post was misleading; I was referring to MANPADS in general, and not to the Red Eye, specifically.

Your post was correct.

TWA 800 comes to mind, but that’s another discussion.

However, police confiscated the weapon because it is considered a controlled military item, Jamieson said.

Weapon? Without the missile it's basically a real fancy whiffle ball bat.
