Some of my kin has been here 400 years.

If family tradition and a common sense read on known history is to be believed, some of them have been here a whole lot longer than that. At least a thousand years longer.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the price of tea in China. Or with the existence of a birth certificate in Mombassa.

Or whether the United States of America is still a nation with defined borders and the rule of law.
