We had a backup hard drive. Had a bunch of pics on it. It fried. All the pics of trips with the grandkids.....gone.
I think keeping everything on a machine is dangerous. But "paperless" is the way everyone is going, banks, government etc.
Ah well. Try getting a backup hard drive but keep it disconnected from the PC in case of a crash. That's what wiped ours.

Back up hard drive and back that up with a 16 or 32 Gig thumb drive for the really important, can't lose stuff.
Some 16 Gig thumb drives are below $40 at Office Deport every now and then.

Good advice. Online backup might be another option. Norton keeps asking me to backup with them, and I should take them up on it because we already paid for Norton 360.
