Hoffa Statement On The Decline In U.S. Gross Domestic Product
digitaljournal.com ^ | January 30, 2013

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is an official statement from Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa:

"Today we learned that the U.S. economy is shrinking due to a fall in government spending. That should tell us that government austerity is not just wrong, it's bad economic policy.

"The Bureau of Economic Affairs' announcement that GDP fell by 0.1 percent reinforces our message that we need jobs, not cuts – especially to Social Security, Medicare and education.

"Teamsters around the country are participating in actions today to demand that big corporations and the richest 2 percent pay their fair share of taxes. I hope extremists in Congress pay attention to their message that Americans need jobs, not cuts.

"Another reason for the decline in GDP is a fall in U.S. exports, the legacy of NAFTA, CAFTA and PNTR. I hope Congress finally wakes up to the destruction caused by these job-killing trade deals."

Let’s hear your ideas. How do you propose to “bring back American jobs?”

Not this kid.

I just am trying to win over a majority of people that we actually need American jobs.

Now and in the future.

I’ll let everyone discuss how that can be done. I’m just saying we need to stop shipping jobs away, and turn that around now.

Somehow.

The solution is Smoot-Hawley. Bring back high tariffs. We don’t export anything, so our exports won’t be an issue. The tariff will increase our GPD, just on supporting local consumption of local goods as foreign goods become more expensive. We are the consumption cow of the world. Why not take advantage of that. Yes, prices will rise, but so will our employment. And putting everyone back to work will bring more competition, eventually.

""Today we learned that the U.S. economy is shrinking due to a fall in government spending. That should tell us that government austerity is not just wrong, it's bad economic policy."

What outright bullshit from this Democrat/union thug. And the press will treat this absurd statement like it's sacred holy writ. It will never be challenged and labeled the stupidity that it is.

we need jobs

Why not just have you union guys take pay cuts so companies can hire more workers? That would do it!

“Today we learned that the U.S. economy is shrinking due to a fall in government spending. That should tell us that government austerity is not just wrong, it’s bad economic policy.”

So, Hoffa considers $5 trillion govt deficit spending in 4 years as austerity

The Superstorm Sandy Porkulous Bill alone will soak up all the extra tax receipts from “the rich”, for this year

Say, when do the Teamsters go on obamacare, anyway?

Ideas for jobs?

Sure focus on the evil that brought Obama:
The problem was Mr. RomneyCARE and his supporters.
Now the country is in ruin.

Do you think RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE will help make JOBS?

Do you think Mr. RomneyCARE, having PUT Obama in
TWICE (by his relentless attacks on CONSERVATIVES) helped?

Focus on the evil that is Romney/Rove/Rino.

Most “economists” dont know the first thing about economics. You do not need a university degree to understand how markets and how investors act.

Pick up Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, for instance. That will teach you all you need to know about economics.

See that is the problem right now.

BOTH sides are anti-American jobs.

WTH?

I love Atlas Shrugged. Have read it several times now, though it has been a while - perhaps I should read it again.

The problem is Rand herself did not see the possibility of a communist China which is more efficient than “capitalist” America.

That is the problem. Americans have bought into this Rand-ian thought that we can disinvest in industry and it will correct itself.

It is not set to correct itself. It is set to bankrupt America, while meanwhile building our largest adversary. We continue to send business to China, continue to disinvest in America - and the problem continues to grow.

We need a new approach. This current approach is national suicide.
